So far, I've seen the Governor, the New Orleans Mayor, and the police chief have on-camera meltdowns, now this guy.

Voinovich was ahead of his time. Maybe the Dems should all just go off and have a good cry. They can come back when they feel better. Or not.

>But seems to me I saw Chertoff on CNN last night, just before they announced Rehnquist's death, and he was still saying "no one knew it would be this bad," and for that I think he needs to go, because if he doesn't know it's been predicted for years as one of the top 3 potential disasters in the U.S., he's too clueless to be in that job.<

Amelia, take his statement, and put it in the context that "no one knew the incompetence of the Governor and the Mayor, and the entire heirarchy of Louisiana was this complete", and I think you'll get an entirely different meaning to his statement.

Makes his statement pretty on target, doesn't it?

"The "unbiased" Howell Raines, The New York Times, on This Week BLAMING PRESIDENT BUSH for the failure to militarize N. O.!"

Chertoff was trying to give the press a civics lesson yesterday wrt the laws and when the Feds can come in and take over and what they can and can't do - perhaps Howie should have listened to him.

Exactly the same. There are a lot of words that we say differently, even highly educated people. Theater being one of them. theater or thater. Just like people in the East talk funny to us. We understand the President perfectly.

NBC has the "President" of a LA parish on who's crying and blaming Bush for everything. If this is the quality of leadership down there, it's no wonder the response to the hurricane was so poor.

I hope so, because I do not want a woman in charge no matter what party that she belongs to.

Frist was interviewed by Geraldo on Fox. Frist said he will not talk about politics & he was there as a doctor. Trent Lott & Bobby Jindal both last their houses. Though they have every reason to be angry at whatever they want, they behaved responsibly and republicans can be proud of them.

CNN's Cafferty, at the end of one of his "brilliant" commentaries suggesting the people in NO were not helped enough because they were black, and it was all the Administration's fault, commented that now he'd probably get an IRS audit. He was the first journalist I noticed who played the race card, and that was before Nagin's "emotional outburst".

So--oh goody--we have one guy using a stacked deck, and the other a not quite full one. Dont'cha just love the left?

You got that right - that's why Witt was brought in to 'take charge' and act as a liaison for Blanco w FEMA. Thought I heard something about Wes Clark coming in, too - but I don't have anything to confirm that.

That is so true! Notice how DemonicRATs always propose "waiting" or "deferring" rather than "DOING!"

Louisiana State Constitution | 9/3/05
State of Louisiana Constitution Article IV, Section 5: Duties and Responsibilities of the Governor Pp (i), section (J): "Commander-in-Chief. The governor shall be commander-in-chief of the armed forces of the state, except when they are called into service of the federal government. Copy of an email I am sending out to as many "journalists" as I can get addresses to.

Spencer Hsu: hsus@washpost.com

Manuel Roig-Franzia roigfranzia@washpost.com

Questions American Journalists still have not answered as of Sun Sept 4th.

Are you aware that the 1st reports that the levees broke on came out Late MONDAY Aug 30th, 2005?

Do you even know the lines of legal authority and responsibility in responding to this disaster? What the City Govt. is suppose to be doing? What the State does? What the Feds CAN and CANNOT do?

Why do we even have Local and State Government for if everything is the Feds fault?

Are you aware that 1st the City of NO, then the State of Louisiana, are responsible for disaster relief efforts for the 1st 72 hours? Simple reason, they are right there. The Feds are responsible for EVERYWHERE. Why is it that NO is the ONLY place we are seeing a complete break down of the rescue efforts?

Are you aware that the physical security of the FEMA rescue operations is the responsibility of the City of NO?

Are you aware that the initial Louisiana NG were sent into N.O.UNARMED by order of the State Gov Blanco?

Are you aware initial response by the State of Louisiana the break down of order in NO was to dispatch a mere 300 Armed NG troops to restore order on THURSDAY

Here is how the system is SUPPOSE to work.

If the City of NO cannot met that responsibility, they have to ASK the State Gov for law enforcement and National Guard assets before those assets will be sent into the disaster area? After all, the STATE cannot know what the CITY'S problems are until the CITY tells them.

When did Mayor Nagel ask the State to send help? When did the Gov contact the Feds for help?

Where are "objective" journalists so eager to pin the blame for the failures of the 1st Responders (City of NO) and the Second responders (State of Louisiana) on the 3rd Responders (The Feds)? Why are you giving the city of NO and the State of Louisiana a free pass?

Why is the rescue efforts proceeding smoothly everywhere BUT N.O?

If the Gov of the State feels they have insufficient National Guard resources, they can call upon the available resources of the NG in all 49 other states?

Do you understand that the NG units are under the command of the State Govs NOT the President unless Federalized? The initial Guard responses are under STATE not FEDERAL authority. The President cannot issue them orders even if he wanted to.

If the National Guard is Federalized, do you realize they are NOW part of the Regular Army and so all laws that apply to the Regular Military ALSO apply to Federalized NG troops?

That ultimately, no matter what a President might WANT to do, he is prevented from deploying regular military to perform DOMESTIC Law enforcement UNLESS asked for by the State Govt? The ONLY exception is if the state and/or local authorities are in defiance of Federal Legal authority? Do you understand that the line of legal, and actual, responsibility for the disaster management in N.O. runs like this. City of NO to State of LA to the FEDS? So while you are all so gleefully parroting the CYA screams of the Democrat Machine in Louisiana, ask yourself this. Why did the local relief efforts fail so dramatically to perform their duties for the 1st 72 hours of the disaster? Just what did all those millions given to the City of NO and the State of LA by the Dept of Homeland security for 1st responders and Disaster Contingency planning buy us?

Finally professional "Journalists", why are you so incapable of uncovering all this basic information yet some guy on his computer can find it all out with about 15 mins work on the Internet? So far the coverage by the "professional journalists" does not even merit an F. So far all the Media has earned is an I. Incompetent and ignorant.

CNN should change its name to CYA. They are having a difficult time since all their props are turning out to be loons.

They had to hide all the outrageous comments of Cindy and now their hero mayor is proving to be totally insane.

It must hurt to be CNN.
