I am a citizen of Florida for 30 years. I have lived through many hurricanes myself. Now I live in Charlotte, where a few fears back we had a huge ice storm and 1.5M lost power. I tell you in every case I have been through, the local government handled it better than what is going on in LA.
First, you are either really missing what is going or you are just plain...I will leave it blank so as to not further incite you.
Anyway, your point of "...money was rerouted to fight the Iraqi War" is just plain ignorant. To my dismay, the budget has grown in every aspect EVEN when defense and Iraqi are factored out of the equation. So what do you think that LA did with the millions of dollars in homeland security money they got? They are not NY, so it was not for beefing up the levies. Additionally, they are still many National Guard soldiers available...MANY, they just have to be activate by the local governments. That is the way it works. Lastly on this point, the levies are LA issues NOT the federal government’s problem. Just like in California, the earthquakes are their issues which is why the building codes are much tougher and like in Florida where the hurricanes are their issues and again, the building codes are much tougher, especially after Andrew.
And if the residents REALLY feared the breaking of the levies, why haven't the done anything before this? If they were really afraid, why we people standing on Bourbon Street drinking while the storm was there?
To your point of letting them sleep outside, well they do. Have you not watched every channel and seen how many people are outside the dome? Does that some how justify the numerous rapes, assaults and murderers that are taking place at the dome?
And apparently you are not paying attention to the new coverage on the looting. In LA along with everywhere else looting food and water is completely legal and acceptable during times like this, but when you have people looting guns, TVs, jewelry, shoes, cloths, DVD players, etc. that is not survival. So in your mind, does that justify the police officers turning in their badges and joining the looters? Does it justify the armed gangs shooting at rescue workers and shooting a cop in the HEAD? The stranded people are not shooting at the rescue workers, it is the ones already at or near the dome.
I am sure that you as well as the other morons think this is Bush's fault. I am astounded by your degree of ignorance and lack of critical thinking. I also assume that you think this is one giant racial issue too. I fear that if you actually stopped and thought and understood how governments actually work that your head might actually explode. Governments are wasteful, inefficient and reactionary at best. If you think that any of that is untrue, then you are deluded and should seek medical help immediately!
My wife and I gave a lot of money to 9/11, the tsunami disaster and now this (in addition, we give to the Salvation army, Goodwill, a local food bank, a local crisis center, AIDS orphans in Africa, and others). I am personally offended by remarks like this and usually the ones spouting remarks like this donate nothing or very little. I would not be surprised if you were part of that group.

The town lacks basic survival instincts,they didn't evacuate. The local plan was to request 250,000 body bags. They all chose to gamble with their lives and when you consider what could have happened, they got off easy. Just not Big Easy.
The disaster efforts are a disaster THEMselves.

Have you bothered to see that those with primary initial responsibility are all Democrats? The mayor and the police chief are black.
The city school buses are all still sitting in a parking lot. Why were they not used? Why did the police chief or mayor not get them out and drive several thousand out of the area of danger?
Why did the Governor not call out the national guard prior to the hurricane hitting? Why did she not even say anything of substance for the first two days?
Why did the two states that got hit the hardest, Alabama and Mississippi not have the same problems as LA and NO? Because they had adults leading them.
Grow up and pay attention to facts. You comments show you are like all those in charge in N.O. and LA, substance does not matter. This is why our country is sunk if a democrat gets back in the White House.
