Good grief, man, learn to paragraph! I didn't read past the first two sentences of what I'm sure was an articulate, well-reasoned post. Ahem.

Hey, don't rip the guy because he's not a scholar. Do we have to be elitists like the liberals? Give the guy a break. Did you ever try to read the original handwritten Constitution? That's harder than reading what this guy wrote.

Actually, Price gouging has it's benefits on the consumer too. Face it, if a retailer is forced to keep some commodity (say "ICE" for example) at a fixed price, then people that perhaps don't even need much "ice" that badly, tend to overbuy it while the getting is good. Thus those that really need the ice can't find it (perhaps they have meds that need to be kelp cool). So a person that really really needs the ice will buy a few bags (just what they need) at a high price, while those that don't really need it will pass on hording an expensive item.
Price gouging often is misunderstood in this manner and does have a place in disasters... IMHO... Hording needed items is common nature, Price gouging limits hording and makes it more available for people really in need.

You Sir, are a price-gouging SCUMBAG and are no better than a looter. Do you know what we do with looters? We take them out back and apply a "double-tap" to the brain case housing group.
Oh, sorry - you have no brain - just an empty cavity where one should be.
Dope

At least he WORKS I guess you have to give that much to him, but businesses that don't appreciate their customers don't usually last too long. If he has to go out of state to make his money he's probably what they used to call a carpetbagger. I bet he doesn't get many repeat customers.

It's disheartening to see so many here at FR that don't understand that capitalism is the most compassionate economic state.
Why are so many of you ready to throw it out the door at the first sign of "inconvenience".
If those people need ice ... what is the best way to get it there ?
The nanny government that you all love so much ?
Or some private guy in a trunk, who thinks he might make a few bucks.
I used to go to storms and disaster, just like this roofer.
The first thing you have to do is spend a few days cutting the roads open ... for free ... with the saws and gas you brought from home.
Once the roads are a little clear, the emergency folks , military, national guard etc can start doing their job.
And I could start doing mine. I did "cover ups", emergency roof covers using plywood and plastic. Insurance companys require that you do what ever you can to minimise damage to your home. Most damage occurs days after the storm, when the rain comes again and just pours in. The insurance companies know that they have to pay a premium fr "cover ups" they don't mind, they know it saves them TONS of money.
hmmm .... let me put a paragraph here ... wouldn't want to blow anyones eyes out ...
The last event I went to was Hugo. I will never go to another.
Let all the people who cry about "outsiders" coming in clear all the roads. Of course it may take a little longer. After all they have to get out of their own driveways first.
