President Bush continues to assess the catastrophic damage by air and on the ground in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Bush spent the day meeting with search and rescue personnel, relief commanders, and displaced residents in Mobile, Biloxi, and the New Orleans area. U.S. Congress passed a $10.5 billion relief package for the hurricane ravaged areas. First Lady Laura Bush issued a press statement from an evacuation shelter in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Patient and staff evacuations continue from numerous New Orleans Hospitals. Thousands of patients are being airlifted to a field hospital at Louis Armstrong New Orleans Airport for triage, staging, and transport to hospitals throughout the United States.

The U.S. Coast Guard and civilian volunteers continue to evacuate thousands of survivors from their flooded homes in New Orleans. The Army Corps of Engineers continues work to repair the damaged levees.

The nation's airlines today began an operation intended to fly up to 25,000 refugees out of New Orleans. The airlines are volunteering their aircraft and crews for the program. Long convoys loaded with relief supplies arrived throughout the day into New Orleans, while convoys of buses are moving survivors out of the city.

Several large fires are burning in the city and greater New Orleans area. Reports indicate snipers are holding down firefighters. Reports of shots fired with LEO down in the St. Bernard Parish area. Rescue operations are underway. A bus carrying NOLA evauees rolled over in Opelousa, LA.

WWL-TV New Orleans (via WFAA Dallas) - WWL-TV is operating from studios at Louisiana Public Broadcasting. CBS has a relay during the morning and afternoon. When available, use the CBS relay first as they have greater streaming capacity. Yahoo has also provided a relay.

WDSU-TV New Orleans - The news staff has started to return to temporary news studios near New Orleans. However, expect evening coverage from Hearst-Argyle sister stations WAPT Jackson and WESH Orlando when the New Orleans staff needs to take a break.

WGNO-TV New Orleans - New Orleans' ABC affiliate has returned to the air with WBRZ-TV and launched video streaming with continuous Katrina coverage.

WPMI-TV Mobile, AL - WPMI is webcasting from 5:30am - 10:30pm CDT. When off air, you can view pre-recorded reports on demand. This feed is often unreliable.

WKRG-TV Mobile, AL - This station is providing good coverage of the situation to the east in Mississippi and Alabama. However, the station is now signing off at around 10:30pm CDT like WWL and WPMI.

WJTV-TV Jackson, MS - The CBS affiliate in Jackson is providing live coverage for both the Jackson area and south Mississippi (knowing a lot of media in that area is off the air).

United Radio From New Orleans: WWL-AM, WNOE-FM, "KISS-FM," WRNO-FM, WYLD-FM, and WJBO-AM who have joined forces as United Radio From New Orleans, and they are streaming.

People were talking about the levee in a Cat 5 storm in 1965 after Betsy. I was there, I went to the disaster meetings, I read and talked about it.

40 years at least they have known this, 40 years!!!!

U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters: Rescue delay shows "class division"

U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters, D-California, arrived in Baton Rouge on Saturday with one message to President Bush and federal rescue agencies:

"Get it done," Waters said. "I thought I'd seen a lot. Don't forget, I'm from Los Angeles," where there has been a documented history of rioting. "But nothing like this. To see dead bodies on the street just unnerves me."

Waters said she came in response to the vast scope of the catastrophe, and was flanked by her friend State Sen. Cleo Fields, D-Baton Rouge. At about 4 p.m. on Saturday, Waters said she was leaving to ride a bus with evacuees from New Orleans. "To give them water, to give them comfort," she said at the Emergency Operations Center in Baton Rouge.

Waters said the delay in rescuing the stranded masses of people in the New Orleans region shows "a class division."

"There are a lot of naïve people," Waters said. "This is America. This should be illuminating about what we need in terms of dealing with poverty."

The poorest of the poor make up so many of the people stranded in New Orleans and the outlying areas, she added. "The United States has just been seen in a light that many people in the world never thought they'd see."

Yes I think that Jackson, Sharpton, Belafonte, and the liberal white enablers are trying to incite at least riots in the streets like they had in the Watts area of LA.

They believe that riots will not look good for the conservatives or the president.

It's rather childish thinking on their part but these race baiter have nothing to lose.

They see what their doing as a power play.

Had a good friend who lived in Watts and worked for my dads company.

He was afraid to even go to work.

Afraid he would lose all of his worldly possessions and maybe his life.

Because he and several of his neighbors would not support the black leaders their houses and cars were spray painted with words like white mans nigger lives here or drives this car.

I was to young at the time to understand the bravery it must have took for him and his neighbors to stand up for what they believed.

I believe that we must somehow put a stop to the harsh anti white rhetoric now being bandied about by the race baiter's.

If the rhetoric doesn't stop, the next non storm disaster may be in our local neighborhoods.

More people could be be killed and maimed in a bigger disaster than Katrina brought to those poor people down on the Gulf Coast.

You are correct. There was a change when state legislatures no longer appointed senators, and senators became elected "at large".

Everyone on earth knows the poor finish last in any kind of emergency. They lack resources to get out, some lack adaptablity to get out, some don't listen, some are too burdened to get out.

Everywhere, every culture, every country, every damn place on earth it happens. And it isn't racism. It is the reality of life here on earth.

I believe that the Hurricane tragedy has maybe kept snippets from the News about the health of the CJ. The libs behavior tell me they had a heads up. That commercial ad for John Roberts is very clear and effective.

I'm listening. It sounds like the laundry list of meds was for victims and the callback was to clarify the timely need for the meds. Then it boiled down to one victim who says he has one red pill left and they are trying to determine what the red pill is.

We need to find the tactical channel.
