Mayor to feds: 'Get off your asses'
CNN.com ^

Posted on 09/02/2005 11:14:43 AM PDT by Millee

New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin blasted the slow pace of federal and state relief efforts in an expletive-laced interview with local radio station WWL-AM.

The following is a transcript of WWL correspondent Garland Robinette's interview with Nagin on Thursday night. Robinette asked the mayor about his conversation with President Bush:

NAGIN: I told him we had an incredible crisis here and that his flying over in Air Force One does not do it justice. And that I have been all around this city, and I am very frustrated because we are not able to marshal resources and we're outmanned in just about every respect. (Listen to the mayor express his frustration in this video -- 12:09)

You know the reason why the looters got out of control? Because we had most of our resources saving people, thousands of people that were stuck in attics, man, old ladies. ... You pull off the doggone ventilator vent and you look down there and they're standing in there in water up to their freaking necks.

And they don't have a clue what's going on down here. They flew down here one time two days after the doggone event was over with TV cameras, AP reporters, all kind of goddamn -- excuse my French everybody in America, but I am pissed.

Blame game begins.......

Lessons learned, this slacker may get a pass because of this "historic" event. Every other polidiot, police chief or chicken little beancounter etc etc will not have an excuse. Their inept ability to play to nothing but the PR sound bite should be noted and remembered. IMHO if such evidence exists that moneys for such emergency services was diverted to pork projects then get a rope and make an example of these killers......

Planning on paper don't get it....

And why are the thousands of people stuck, Mr. Mayor? Could it be because you issued a mandatory evacuation order and then didn't provide means of evacuating?

He's in full CYA mode.

Yep....and like a caller to Rush said yesterday, funny how these dem politicians can mobilize successful get out the vote efforts, flawlessly getting people to the polls during elections..............but when it comes to evacuating them, they have no plan, and blame the feds.

No, he just wants to get some help to his people. If you can't hear that in the interview, then you aren't listening.

No one is doubting that... He's just a sucky mayor, that's all.

As usual, the insipid liberal swine can do nothing but point the finger of blame at everyone else.

It's what they do. Liberals are never responsible; liberals are incapable of doing anything but mewling about how someone else has dropped the ball.

"No, he just wants to get some help to his people."

Oh, indeed. Liberals are all about "helping." They never manage to actually do it, though, do they?

No. This putrid swine obviously cared very deeply. That what busses are sitting underwater that could have been used to transport people; that's why the thought of a staging area a few miles away with boats, helicopters and supplies, somehow wasn't a high priority to the wonderful liberals, even though they've been running the place since Reconstruction.

Really? I didn't hear anything about that in the press coverage. If I didn't hear that on TV it couldn't possible be true,

Good old CNN. :-)

From a real news source:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1475665/posts

New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin exploded in frustration last night as his city spun further out of control, saying that Gov. Kathleen Blanco and President Bush need to stop holding "goddman press conferences" and "get their ass[es] on a plane and sit down, the two of them, and figure this out right now."

"I don't know whose problem it is. I don't know whether it's the governor's problem. I don't know whether it's the president's problem,"

The MSM coverage is going to get nasty, nasty, nasty over the next few days and weeks. Everything is going to be as slanted as possible to make this thing look like it's the President's fault. Period.

The mayor doesn't want to accept blame for his horrendous leadership, along with the LA governor, so he is trying to shift the focus to President Bush, who should just take charge, federalize the effort, and push this moron and Governor nutjob lady out of the way...

So when your state of California had been struck by earthquakes and landslides did your Governor look for the Federal Government for Help?

In most every disaster movie I know of where people knew the disaster was coming people were evacuated; buses driving through neighborhoods to pick people up, national guard providing control. Guess Hollywood is smarter than Nagin (and that ain't saying much).

What a jerk! Trying to make his lack of leadership (what ideas has he come up with, by the way?) look like Bush's fault. Why isn't he out there in the streets?

Did the mayor first ask the Governor to send the National Guard? Did he know he should have asked?

I really don't remember seeing any police rescuing people. I don't remember him calling the president and telling him the governor had not sent in troops and could the president do anything.
I do remember the Governor saying that the president called her and the MAYOR to tell them he thought they should call for a mandatory evacuation.

So when your state of California had been struck by earthquakes and landslides did your Governor look for the Federal Government for Help?

Yes, he obtained federal dollars for the state, but correctly handled the problems within the state himself, like a good Governor should, so he did not need to put the blame on President Bush. It's "CYA" mode for the mayor or New Orleans and the governor of Louisiana, because they SCREWED UP!

The mayor's ire is misdirected. Governor Blanco sat on her duff and didn't take action soon enough. Remember, the Louisiana National Guard answers to her.

That said, the mayor's no prize either.
