Maybe Mayor Nagin would like to explain this picture before he and the rest of his democratic fellow travelers continue to blast the fed's.

An aerial view of flooded school buses in a lot, Thursday, Sept. 1, 2005, in New Orleans, LA. The flood is a result of Hurricane Katrina that passed through the area last Monday.(AP Photo/Phil Coale)

But if these buses had been used to evacuate people, he couldn't ask for the Feds to provide aid to replace all of the school buses ruined by the flooding.

He keeps blaming FEMA, but his people have been very bad. They sent people to the Convention Center for a shelter then didn't tell FEMA. Superdome ran out of food, and waited till after it was gone to ask for more food. A city surrounded by water had no supplies to stop levee breaks. Army Corp had to go searching for sandbags and things to block the breaches.

I've thought about those dead buses a lot these past few days. Great graphic of the "New Orleans Hurricane Evacuation Plan" by Mayor Nagin and crew.

Yes, this administration hedged it's bets by gambling that this wouldn't happen when they cut the Levee budget, and yes, city officials KNEW that there were 125,000 people in New Orleans who have NO TRANSPORTATION.

WRONG. Many HAD transportation ... they just didn't want to use it. They wanted to remain behind and loot, pillage, and steal. They didn't believe it would be bad. And, as for those who didn't have transport or who were old and incapable ... That photo of the school busses demonstrates the lie there ... there was AMPLE public transportation to evacuate them all. This inept Mayor just refused to do it, and now he wants to blame Bush. It makes me want to riot and pillage in my own hood, too.

They ignore that Carter cut that funding, that Clinton cut it more and that the levee that broke had already been repaired. The Bush cuts had absolutely NOTHING to do with this flood.

Guiliani and Gov Bush have spoiled President Bush with their responses to disasters.

Lets also apply some personal accountability to those who
refused FREE transportation out of N.O. & chose instead to remain in harms way.
I'm not saying don't help the obstructionist but, certainly all the facts can be stated.

Do you honestly think there is another school bus parking lot in the country under that amount of water?

Ever? You bet. Look at post 59. I could have easily said it was from this week in NO. Do you make a habit out of blindly believing posts without links?

I assume that the picture is real & part of the aftermath, but explain to me what's wrong with wanting confirmation, hmm?

Trust, but verify my friend.

I was in the city during the 911 attack and saw triage up close and personal so I don't even want to go there. It's just my opinion that those who couldn't possibly help themselves should have had immediate attention.

Exactly! Also, what about taxi cabs and access busses for disabled people and patients. I can't believe they didn't do more to evacuate the hospitals, too.

No the point is, those busses were available BEFORE THE HURRICANE HIT, to get those people out.

The point is, THEY WEREN'T UNDER WATER LAST FRIDAY, SATURDAY AND SUNDAY! Why didn't they use them to take people out ahead of the storm? I'll tell you why! BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T WANT TO!

They purposely did not get people on buses to get them out of town because they waited too long to do it and it would have created such gridlock on the roads that nobody would get out and tens of thousands would have been sitting ducks when the storm hit.

The mayor and the governor rolled the dice and gambled with the lives of the poorest of their citizens. They lost big time and instead being stand-up people and accepting the blame, they are deflecting it onto others.

Agreed...many who could have gotten out chose to stay and "ride it out" despite the tardy mandatory evacuation order. They carry accountability for their own actions...but are still people, despite their foolishness who we should try (and are trying) now to help.

Many of them paid for their foolishness with their lives.

Wake up! The reason the residents of New Orleans did not evacuate their homes prior to the hurricane is a reason well known to the residents. The minute you leave your home, it will be robbed by your neighbor.

The weakest were going to be victimized either by the storm or their neighbor. The Storm was a possibility, the pillaging by your neighbor an absolute. Too bad the victims were victims twice.

While I will agree, to a point with your post, the entire purpose of this thread is to show that, even two days before the storm hit, the mayor had sufficient transportation at his disposal to start evacing people that had no transport - and - his constant whining that the feds aren't acting is just a way of deflecting the blame from himself.

Could the after-event repsonse been better - probably - it almost always CAN be. Will the response teams learn from this - certainly. But, in the middle of trying to save lives and get people resettled, the politicing and blame game should WAIT (something the president has called for!!) until AFTER it's over. or, should we spend valuable time and resources on congressional investigations to determine "What Bush Knew and When He Knew It??"

"And, how do we know that this picture was taken in NO?"

Ah, clever observation. It could have been taken in a school district where they park the buses in a lake.
