this is a nice offer, but why is it only coming from canada? hwo many other countries have we sent help to that aren't even offering help?
and if canada does come down it needs to be relief, not military, altho with bush's north american alliance crap, i wouldn't be surprised if he ok'ed them put into military actoin.

I am no fan of Mr Dithers but in fairness the offer was made by his deputy prime minister almost as soon as the magnitude of the disaster became known.

But we cannot move the DART team until the US accepts the offer of help and asks for its deployment and tells where to deploy it.

Also, the materiel to be moved takes a Globemaster or a shuttle service of Hercules aircraft and lots of land upon which to set up. One cannot aimlessly wander about the Gulf coast with this materiel and personnel looking for someone to allow us to use it.

What needs to happen is for Homeland Security to make a phone call to Gen Hillier's staff to ask for deployment. It would also helf for the USAF to send some heavy lift aircraft to Trenton as the Hercs are not big enough. For the tsumani job DART had to rent a Russian heavy cargo aircraft.

Canadian soldiers and medical teams and hydro teams are GREAT.

Thanks Canada.

Come on America...just say thanks and get these Canadians on the next planes down.

I would have to make the assumption that you DON'T speak for the people in the affected areas. I'm also certain the mayer of NO would welcome any additional help.

I could be wrong, but moving the DART hardware/supplies to the southern States is a lot different than moving it across an ocean and half way around the World. We used the Russian aircraft because of the long distance and the fewer flights it would have to make. I believe the Hercs could do the job ... they'd just have to make more flights.

"The govts at all levels have alienated the various Militias, they will, I am sure, at least here in Maine, stand by and watch, but, they will not tolerate foreign troops killing US citizens, criminals or not!"

What will you and your fellow pot-bellied, beer-guzzling, gun-toting trailer trash actually DO about it?

That's quite the catch-22. I suspect that you'd be one of the first people to complain if we offered nothing. No?

What exactly DO you have against Canadians who have offered to help us? How fat and stupid ARE you?

"when pigs fly"

Whether there is a rift between our countries or not is immaterial. To sit and watch human beings suffer and die when we able to help would be criminal. Canadians are not criminal and we have as individuals great respect for our neighbors. So whether you appreciate it or not we'll be there with bells on. Because we're all human and there for the grace of God go I.
