Well ill tell you what, you never answered my point. Where in the hell are you going to go when you dont have a car or any money or anywhere else to go??????? All you have is your home. Thats it.

Unless you are extremely well off, most people living under the poverty line, like in NO, run out of money at the end of the month.

You are obviously another clueless Californicator, b-tching about illegals, yet ignoring the home grown scum of the earth.

Your point? You had one?

Well, I did answer. I'd use what I had and my brain to secure my home and my family first. You don't have to be well off to save up 2 weeks worth of food - it's actually very cheap if you catch sales or off brands. You can get food that lasts for years and will keep you going for a day for sometimes under a dollar a serving. It's not health food, but it will keep you going.

Look at the tsunami victims. They WISH they could be as well off as the 'poor' people in new orleans. America's poor people would be upper middle class - or even rich - by their standards. Yet they didn't loot. They preserved order and worked together. This, frankly, is an embarrassment in front of the world.

But you need to face reality.

The city of new orleans did just what you said they should have done. Be compassionate. Let the looters "take what they need".

Never mind that the looting started even before the hurricane hit, and people were stealing luxury items.

But they did it your way.

And it got out of control.

Instead of being stopped, looters were emboldened to loot more.

They broke into houses and stores and stole guns.

They became armed, roving bands that terrorized the innocent people you claim to be standing up for. Assaulting, raping, and murdering them.

That is the result of what you think should have been done.

Cause and effect. You get more of the behavior your reward. They rewarded lawlessness, and they got more of it.

I don't why you can't see that, or why you still think your hand wringing and sticking your head in the sand is the better approach.

Is it worse to shoot criminals or leave them running free to prey on the innocent? Which do you prefer?

I still wouldn't loot luxury items. I'm just not like that. Perhaps, I was raised right.

They are poor because of decisions they have made. There are opportunities abound for people who are willing to work, not to mention the affirmative action programs, and gov't $ available for schooling for minorities. I had to put up with that "diversity" crap all through college, and aside from some legitimately helpless people, they made their bed. You are where you are in life because of choices you make. You can't change all that in 4 days before a hurricane...

While working with a predominantly black crew of recyclers (paid off the books), I learned that "mother's day" comes once a month in their community, when a tide of federal (taxpayer) money washes through, temporarily lifting well-connected boats.
