Tonight on Nightline, during an inteview with the FEMA director, Ted Koppel demanded to know why the Bush Administration did not send fleets of buses into New Orleans to evacuate those too poor to evacuate themselves -- PRIOR TO KATRINA HITTING NEW ORLEANS.
For previous hurricanes the Federal Government did not participate in evacuations, only in clean up and recovery. That did not seem to matter much to Koppel since he obviously knew that Mike Brown was too much of a gentleman to smack him for attempting to deceived the American people.
However, Koppel does have a point, in a way. The Bush Administration should have known the Louisiana and New Orleans governments would be too incompetent to do anything right, and should have planned for it.
at this point I am beyod sick of the blame Bush syndrone. It has taken on almost comic proportions. Sad part is half th ecountry believes this crap. MORONS
if clinton were in office.. he would be lauded with praise and it would a worse disaster.
The was the tiniest of wobbles right before landfall, and any decisions people made about whether to leave were already long made.
NHC did as much beating over the head as they possibly could.
Memo to Kopell:
The president called the mayor and Governor and urged them to order a mandatory evacuation. They had previously been so urged by the National Weather folks. They waited until 24 hours before the storm struck to order the evac.
The president signed emergency legislation for LA on Sunday, 24 hours before the storm struck. This put FEMA on the ground outside LA before the storm even struck.
The storm struck on Monday. The storm was still raging and just leaving Mississippi at 1:00 a.m. Wednesday morning.
The levee broke Monday night. The looting and water were out of control by Tuesday morning, at which time the president put the full force of the federal goverment behind the relief effort.
When FEMA tried to get into town to help, they were shot at and had to withdraw. THis was after finding the roads inaccessible and the water from the levee danger to travers. Remember the white caps on the water Tuesday? It was shocking.
Gangsters have shot at FEMA, police, National Guardsmen, relief workers trying to rescue children from hospital rooftops and boaters and civilians trying to rescue children from attics. Gangsters have raped and murdered women and children.
I suggest if Ted Kopell thinks he could do better, he get a job with FEMA.
And when he did that, MSM was already grumbling that Bush called a national disaster before there was one. MSM's hatred for this nation and the President is pissing me off to no end. I've had enough of it. It's time to DEMAND that it stop, and people be imprisoned for misleading the public and instigating kaos in this nation. This isn't 'free speach" or freedom of the press. This is an attack on the nation.
And then what?
What does Ted think Bush should have done after THOSE buses got trapped in the flood waters?
Send more buses?
By the way, why does it seem that half the refugees they show on TV are about 5' wide?
Did it occur to Koppel that Bush used to be governor of Texas? He knew who to trust.
See #43 for my answer.
"at this point I am beyod sick of the blame Bush syndrone. It has taken on almost comic proportions. Sad part is half th ecountry believes this crap. MORONS"
YES!!!
>> "Someone emailed Rush today saying that the Dems can drive all those inner city people to the polls to get their votes, but they wouldn't drive them out of the city to save their lives!"
I heard the caller say that. That was righteous!
If only Ted Koppel knew how incredibly insignificant he is. A truly small man.
...........
You really learn how small a man is when his HAIR out weighs his brain.

LOL>......I know.....if Bush had sent MORE buses before, what does Ted think he should have done after Bush's buses ended up right beside those?
I know....I know.......then Koppel would have been asking "Why did you send those buses into New Orleans before the storm, Mr. President?"
Good brief.
Ah, Ted, the person who deserves the blame is the governor. Don't let the facts get in the way of your liberal bias Ted.
I think a tv station told them this, but how would they broadcast to the people in the city without power? Im not really sure
Everyone was told to leave. These people just didn't follow the instructions!
The New Orleans city page online?
They have no problems driving them to the polls. Over and over and over and over...
