New Orleans Emergency Operations Chief Blasts FEMA
WSAV-TV ^ | Thursday, September 1ST, 2005 | Associated Press.

Posted on 09/01/2005 9:05:22 PM PDT by M. Espinola

FEMA is getting an earful from the man heading New Orleans' emergency operations.

Terry Ebbert says the federal agency's response to Katrina is "a national disgrace."

Ebbert says FEMA has been in the city for three days, but he says that has yet to result in any command and control. He says Mayor Ray Nagin has been "pushing and asking, but we're not getting any supplies."

The emergency chief says the evacuation of thousands from New Orleans to Texas has been "almost entirely" a Louisiana operation -- saying he hasn't seen "a single FEMA guy."

His job is to make it happen, that's what we pay him for! If it is not already obvious, I'm mad as hell at this state of affairs.

They are distributing water and food and saving lives and providing medical care and providing shelter, etc. What you do not seem to understand is there are THOUSANDS of people of THOUSANDS of miles he need help and it will take more than a few days to get that done.

Ah, that's HIS city right?

I'm too poor to leave New Orleans on 3 days notice, but I can make it to the Superdome or convention center miles away through a howling Hurricane and expect the government to take care of me from there.

Oh and when help does come, I'll open fire on them, that should help.

It's like Water World.

Aaron Brown tonight on CNN saying if the President's name were Clinton, all the conservatives would be as outraged as he is, bull Aaron. If the President's name were Moses, that wouldn't mean the folks in the convention center would be eating caviar and drinking champaign!

It's a natural disaster, not a plot. There is no power, no phones, and very few roads open to do jack for the people of New Orleans. News flash, it's easy to fly one reporter in to bitch about the world, it's another thing to airlift food for 100,000 people at the drop of a hat!

Terry, frankly, there are a bunch of New Orleans city officials who ought to be on their way to Angola for negligent homicide. Probably including you. Don't go there.

There is plenty of blame to go around on all levels of government, but neither Mr. Ebbert or any one else's finger-pointing is getting those people out of the hell hole that is New Orleans at this moment.

And I'll bet Pres. G.W. Bush had a lot to do with Gov. Perry making the offer.

Nah, LA is our sister state - we truly love one another. It's literally like taking in our neices and nephews until our sister gets a grip.

Interesting - just saw a live report on CNN from the Houston Astrodome where they were covering the story of the Astrodome not accepting any more refugees. The CNN reporter flat out said that he had watched for DOT/FEMA signs on every bus, and every one that he saw personally had such signage displayed.

Some local official had to have been in contact with a "FEMA guy" about this bus project at some point.
Guess Ebert missed the memo or something </Sarcasm>

The inmates of the county jail have been unleasehed onto the city now. Tell me, do you have a little piss and vinegar left to blame the local sheriff, who should have evacuated the inmates ahead of time, or do you blame Bush for that too?

This article needs to be posted as its own thread. Over and over again. Corrupt, lazy, inept politicians knowingly threw the poorest of the poor of their city into a shelter that was wholly inadequate to meet the needs of these people. Disgraceful.

Do I understand this correctly? The man in charge of setting up the emergency command and control system for the city of New Orleans is complaining that FEMA has not set up the emergency command and control system for the city of New Orleans?

You got that Right.

Where was Gov Blanco in calling for troops early on?
Where is Naglin now? It is the Mayor and The Gov job to
request help. She did not request troops until the looting
was out of control.

Between reading about that kid's dog being confiscated (and God knows what happened afterward to Snowball) and the dog on Fox News tonight standing in the flood happily wagging its tail at the cameraman, I'm miserable. I pray the poor pets are rescued. Those humans who are acting like animals don't deserve any rescuing.

I know that, but the states are pleading for help.

The only ones pleading is LA & NO

Because they weren't smart enough to ask for help earlier

The President can't just snap his fingers and poof they get everything they want and need down there

Roads need to be cleared, airports need to be clear and electricity put back up ..

I heard they just got the airports up

The help from the Feds is there and more is on they way

Also do note the other states effected by this storm aren't having the problems NO is having

Maybe because their officials were able to get some control of their cities and states
