First of all, I don't object to the phrase itself. I object to the phrase in this thread.

Second of all, I don't see the government as Superman, but I do know that I have been reassured for FOUR YEARS with our Homeland Security that they could handle an EMERGENCY CRISIS. I am seeing that they in fact, cannot.

Of course they can't. The idea that spending billions in any governement study is going to acheive a dime's worth of security is just hare-brained. If you came up with the idea of securing yourself it would be infinitely cheaper, more pragmatic and actionable. Government is into consumption for consumption's purpose, the rationale for the party is always different, but the party never ends. That's government. What did anyone expect?

That's just it. If you were convinced by the feds that they could handle any crisis that presented itself than you were attributing Superman qualities to the federal government. Because it's just not possible be prepared for every situation (unless you're Superman). The government, at all levels, is made up of regular people, just like you, who are doing their very best with what they have available. That's all they can do and that's all I expect.
