This is from another thread:
The governor of Louisiana declared martial law in Plaquemines and St. Bernard parishes Tuesday morning. This was extended to Orleans parish Tuesday afternoon, and Jefferson parish by the evening.
Does anyone know if martial law WAS declared on Tuesday or is this just rumor?
And if martial law was declared, why isn't regular military helping law enforcement in NO?
The Governor has declared a "state of emergency" which by law gives her broad powers to suspend civil liberties etc.
The state of Louisiana is also swearing in National Guardsman which makes it legal for them to make arrests and use their weapons.
BUT, martial law basically means under military control. IOW's the highest ranking commander in the area of declaration IS the law. That has not been done.
Regular military is forbidden to do law enforcement, even under martial law. The Guard does it. Special orders have to be given by the president, and only under very specific conditions, which have not been met.
The Mayor said he didn't think that she had.
The idiot governor has not made the *right* declaration and request to the Feds. She knows what she has to do to get Federal troops to patrol NO, and she won't do it. Or is mentally unable to do it.
