28,000 National Guard troops are deployed to the disaster areas in Mississippi, Alabama, and to Louisiana, where SWAT teams are working to combat the looters and shooters in New Orleans. Additional 1400 National Guard troops are being deployed daily.
Shootings reported at a New Orleans hospital, rescue boats, and a military helicopter, while conditions continue to deteriorate at the SuperDome amid refugee deaths and chaos. Evacuation of New Orleans continues.
House Speaker Dennis Hastert has voiced serious doubts about rebuilding New Orleans with federal funds, while assuring the people of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida that the United States Congress stands ready to help them in their time of need. New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin issued a "desperate SOS."
Doctors at two desperately crippled hospitals in New Orleans called The Associated Press Thursday morning pleading for rescue, "We have been trying to call the mayor's office, we have been trying to call the governor's office ... we have tried to use any inside pressure we can. We are turning to you. Please help us," said Dr. Norman McSwain, chief of trauma surgery at Charity Hospital, the largest of two public hospitals.
The Port of New Orleans is now open to shallow draft vessels. Congress is reconvening in an emergency session. International offers to assist the U.S. have been received from Russia, Japan, Canada, France, Honduras, Germany, Venezuela, Jamaica, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece, Hungary, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, China, South Korea, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, NATO and the Organization of American States.

Tropical Storm 12
That was not my point, as I was responding to an ice blizzard comment. I understand your snarky reply, but please read both comments in context!!!
There were a LOT of people that froze to death (disoriented due to the storm) steps from their front doorsteps - never reported in the news . Each disaster has their own issues. I never meant to mean that 1976 EVER compared to what is going on the LA. There is no comparison.
LMAO! I was in the kitchen feeding the dogs...didn't see who he was talking to:) Frank Keating is always on the ball with these things.
Okay. Here comes my most intelligent response yet on FR: ---HUH?????? ;^D
Gee. I always wanted to be a man with a price on my head. It sounds so rugged.
Oh, my..... did any of you see the picture of the baby sitting all alone in one of those umbrella strollers> No parent or anyone in sight, all alone... very scary!
OK. Did you post that because you think I'm trashing Bush or something? Bush also convinced the locals to order a mandatory evacuation if the reports are correct. if that had not happened think how many more would have perished.
Let me be clear - the locals are the ones that have some answering to do. But they've created a leadership vacuum. Bush can help with that. That's what I'm saying.
Someone posted that Andrew was under Bush 41 and that Lawton Chiles deliberately delayed asking for federal help so he could complain about federal delay and make Bush look bad.
re Condi: that was my impression as well.
She is a very strong woman. I couldn't tell if she was trying to control tears or if it was something else. You know she has to be exhausted.
Senator,
I write to you today to IMPLORE you to not let the MSM and the radical left wing of this country get away with proverbial murder.
I took the day off today in advance of Labor Day and have been watching Fox News and posting on Free Republic all day. I can not tell how disenheartened I am to read and hear what the MSM is doing to President Bush.
I think it is time for you and your colleagues to stand up and support the President 100%. Who advised the Governor of Louisiana to evacuate BEFORE the hurricane? Who tried everything in his Federal Power to prevent what happened? Who is now stepping to the forefront after the Democratically controlled local and state politicians froze like deer in a headlight and allowed this atrocity to happen?
President Bush.
As a Republican and strong backer of you for many years, I ask you to set aside ambition. Set aside the "inside the beltway" mentality and do what is right. Which is to support to the fullest extent of your power, as a duly elected United States Senator, President Bush. Represent me. Represent my voice on this. Use everything in your power, even though it may cost you politcal capital, to expose the lies, manipulation and outright slander fired toward President Bush.
Do not go quietly into the night.
After my rant I really feel better, try it, it is very therapeutic. Therefore the soapbox I just climbed down from is empty and is in need of a ranter. Do I send the soapbox east or west on I-40?
OMG LOL!!!!!
Made my day!
$80,000....let me tell you, 1sgt's don't make $80,000 a year Johnnyboy..
These folks are going to reap what they sow...there are too many of us who aren't going to stand here digging in our wallets while the man we supported is tongue lashed by the same people most responsible for the chaos of the last few days.

If true, not good in a sense. No better way than to get a class war going, real good, with the hothead gangbangers, rapists and looters in the vanguard. They can, and will, whip up the crowd into a frenzy. John Edwards would at least feel real at home.
