28,000 National Guard troops are deployed to the disaster areas in Mississippi, Alabama, and to Louisiana, where SWAT teams are working to combat the looters and shooters in New Orleans. Additional 1400 National Guard troops are being deployed daily.
Shootings reported at a New Orleans hospital, rescue boats, and a military helicopter, while conditions continue to deteriorate at the SuperDome amid refugee deaths and chaos. Evacuation of New Orleans continues.
House Speaker Dennis Hastert has voiced serious doubts about rebuilding New Orleans with federal funds, while assuring the people of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida that the United States Congress stands ready to help them in their time of need. New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin issued a "desperate SOS."
Doctors at two desperately crippled hospitals in New Orleans called The Associated Press Thursday morning pleading for rescue, "We have been trying to call the mayor's office, we have been trying to call the governor's office ... we have tried to use any inside pressure we can. We are turning to you. Please help us," said Dr. Norman McSwain, chief of trauma surgery at Charity Hospital, the largest of two public hospitals.
The Port of New Orleans is now open to shallow draft vessels. Congress is reconvening in an emergency session. International offers to assist the U.S. have been received from Russia, Japan, Canada, France, Honduras, Germany, Venezuela, Jamaica, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece, Hungary, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, China, South Korea, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, NATO and the Organization of American States.

Tropical Storm 12
My point about preparedness, is that the media seems to think that the federal government should have been in NO five minutes after the wind quit blowing and leading every citizen out of the city by hand.
Why don't they know what I know about preparedness etc.??
Hm. I think I'd rather starve
I couldn't take Molly. She was interviewing people in the shelter as though they were away at sleep away camp.
No, they didn't qualify at all, did they?
Bush has too much class to stoop to playing politics in their face....but he has his ways, with class, to give spankings.
we need to dump this 9/15 cutoff, now. it will take 3-4 months (longer) to get everything online and rebuild stocks.
Good points....all of them.
You hope that people (Scientologists) aren't providing aid to the victims? That's sick.
Has it ever ocurred to anyone that Frist will use the hearings to lambast the local governments' lack of a plan and response?
It appears not.
Wasn't that weird? Trying to get all the kids in at once, all chipper about it. See? Everyone's happy! Back to you!
It's the conflict between the inner-city blacks and the hispanics that is building up to a major conflict. I watch the KTLA5 news out of Los Angeles and all the signs are there. As a veteran of So. Cal's prior riots you begin to get a sense of these things.
If the President was the man you want I wouldn't respect him.
If you want someone that orchestrates fake PR go find Bill Clinton. he's a master at arranging rocks for ceremonial pictures.
I wish I thought you were right....but this is lame duck time.
Bush is going down.
Agreed - hell, I went without for 8 days in the blizzard of 1976 - shows my age :( - no one could get in or out (and I had a newborn baby). Husband was 100 miles away. The skiers ate and drank themselves to oblivion across the street at the ski resort and we just hunkered down and worked together. Took the Army Corps of Engineers to get the valley clear, and we have some of the best snow removal equipment available. Always bought supplies in bulk, don't live near a supermarket. Funny thing was, tho', when we finally got to go shopping, there were 2 guys on either side of my checkout line, both loaded with 2 cases of beer (we we warned about another storm coming). I jokingly asked "are you stocking up for the next one?" He answered: "Yeah, especially if I have to spend the next 8 days with the old lady." Couldn't believe it!
"if there are problems, we will fix them". that's the phrase he spoke that the media is focusing on.
I am doing exactly the same thing. These fools haven't seen the half of their problems...rebuilding will take a long, long time and they are burning their bridges.
The problem is, you won't ever get them to admit they are incompetent...
AND, you will never, ever get the MSM to point it out to them...not politically correct.
Beats me! Actually, I think they know. Chrissy, Wolfie, etc., are trying to make Bush look bad but I hope this is going to backfire on them.
did you hear the CA legislature stated they thought they were exempt from the EPA? they dont want the price to fall because they have been spending that 7.25% sales tax on gas.
