28,000 National Guard troops are deployed to the disaster areas in Mississippi, Alabama, and to Louisiana, where SWAT teams are working to combat the looters and shooters in New Orleans. Additional 1400 National Guard troops are being deployed daily.
Shootings reported at a New Orleans hospital, rescue boats, and a military helicopter, while conditions continue to deteriorate at the SuperDome amid refugee deaths and chaos. Evacuation of New Orleans continues.
House Speaker Dennis Hastert has voiced serious doubts about rebuilding New Orleans with federal funds, while assuring the people of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida that the United States Congress stands ready to help them in their time of need. New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin issued a "desperate SOS."
Doctors at two desperately crippled hospitals in New Orleans called The Associated Press Thursday morning pleading for rescue, "We have been trying to call the mayor's office, we have been trying to call the governor's office ... we have tried to use any inside pressure we can. We are turning to you. Please help us," said Dr. Norman McSwain, chief of trauma surgery at Charity Hospital, the largest of two public hospitals.
The Port of New Orleans is now open to shallow draft vessels. Congress is reconvening in an emergency session. International offers to assist the U.S. have been received from Russia, Japan, Canada, France, Honduras, Germany, Venezuela, Jamaica, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece, Hungary, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, China, South Korea, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, NATO and the Organization of American States.

Um.
Tim McGraw is on cnn
Sorry, but they are called "Refugees" from the Disaster and stop making this like people think they just got off the boat from a third world Country. I did not put words in their mouth, and stop snarking at people's remarks. Cop an attitude puleeze.
Anyone that has come to Memphis will be taken care of. All day long on WREC600 people have been calling in and offering homes, jobs, places for ther pets and anyother thing that a person could want. All they have to do is contact the station and they will be directed to someone to take care of their needs. The local churches are also setting up to take care of tons of people.
Can you imagine how many years of good luck they had? I can't.
poor old grandma, with that American flag around her
Reckon' the General's heard the Mayor melting down in public ?
Lots of updates from Alexandria:
KALB clarified its strange noon newscast in their evening broadcasts. It seems that people in Alexandria are spreading many unsubstantiated rumors of criminal activity (gangs prowling the streets, carjackings etc.), but it cannot be proven that the crimes (if any) are being committed by evacuees. The Alexandria Chief of Police actually said on camera that he wants to put the people responsible for these rumors in jail -- wow!
Like I said before, I'm not a rumormonger, I'm a crime victim. Still, I don't want to end up in jail because I'm saying something people don't want to hear, so I'm not going to talk about it any more for my own personal safety. Sigh...
More updates in a few minutes...
You're right, she does. That's kinda spooky.
When I see people walking over the rubble crying over their lost items in MS I think they should THANK GOD they aren't in NO right now.
I haven't tried it yet, but there's a thread/link over on arfcom that's getting good reports.

Never shelve an agenda before you completely bore folks to death and they surrender out of fatigue.
Amen to your post. I'm mad as hell the media is painting the worst possible picture.
I don't know about any one else, but after all the crap I've seen the last few days, my heart is warmed by the pics I just saw on FNC of just people helping people.
Thank you.
Saw the end of it, couldn't believe my eyes. And Landrieu was obviously TICKED when they broke from her - could you just see the dripping sarcasm when she said "and thank YOU, Anderson, thank you SO MUCH" as she glared daggers.
Then Anderson almost cried on camera going into the next segment. No doubt he's seen some horrific things and wants answers, even if it means takings some Dems to task over it.
BTTT!
