China is preparing for nuclear war with the United States over Taiwan, and a conflict is likely in the near future because of divisions among Beijing's leaders, a Chinese democracy activist says.
Wei Jingsheng, a leading international advocate for political reform in China, said in an interview with The Washington Times that President Bush and other U.S. leaders do not fully understand the chance of a conflict breaking out and must do more to avert it.

China couldn't ask for a better time to try it than right now.
Don't think it couldn't happen.

"

The title first gave me the impression Mr. Wei is an opponent of a democratic China and possibly advocates a nuclear conflict with the U.S. over Taiwan, which isn't the case at all.

We must never let Americans forget that The Clintons' Politburo approved of the ICBM technologies transfers and the Crown Jewels (W-88 et al. weapons systems) FOOLISHNESS TO BE "STOLEN" BY THE ChiComs enabling these valid threats.
I worry everytime Bill, Hitlary, and Chelsea are out of country because they would be given professional courtesy.

Funny... The Chinese keep finding "Made in USA" on their missle guidance systems, computing and networking equipment.

Actually, I wonder what effect this really has. Money is addictive, especially so to dictatorial regimes whose people are restless. If the US is the largest consumer of China-made goods, then engaging in hostile relations with us would destroy their economy, which would, in turn, place China's government at risk for a revolution. They must know this.
China was hostile to us before they became goods manufacturers, so does a strong trade partnership make war more or less likely between us?

Well, if the Chinese ever wondered if we could handle an emergency, they now know the answer. Our underclass raises up and preys on the innocent. New Orleans has shown us an ugly truth.

Mr. Wei also said that social unrest is growing rapidly in China and that hundreds of demonstrations in recent months have weakened Communist Party rule. In Chinese history, he said, unrest has been a sign that a ruler is about to fall, prompting concern among Beijing's communist leaders.
This is what it's all about, rather than a dispute over Taiwan. The commies feel threatened at home. They don't expect to see a better chance than now to catch the U.S. busy and off-guard.
As busy as we may be at the moment, we have lots of missiles which aren't busy. Enough missiles to ruin their whole day. They would ultimately lose both their power and their lives. Surely they aren't suicidal.
