Shep showed a dead body along the freeway. How low can you go to grandstand? Things are bad in N.O., but he didn't have to show it.

I'd love to hear the answer to that question -- it must be maddening! It's in the 90's, humid and no shade. dear Lord!
I guess I'm the rare Shep fan, and I've respected his NO coverage. He's a smartypants, but he definitely lost his glib the last few days.
That was my point.
Shep has become emotionally involved there, but hopefully he can get his head on straight and ask the "right" questions.

I think Shep is doing a great job. Jeez, give it a f'ng break. Dead bodies? Gangs roaming the streets? People stranded and hysterical?
Hey, Libs you're just watching the Trailor to Terrorist attack news reporting. I want to see HOW prepared we are and to let everyone know this is what they'll get, only worse, if we pull out of Iraq.
It was done with dignity. Personally I'm impressed with Shepard Smith's coverage of the disaster. What bothers me are the lingering cameras on the faces of the people in shelters, waiting for help, etc. They have been through hell, they should be allowed some privacy anyway.
I personally think none of the reporters have ever seen the likes of what they are witnessing. They all are breaking down. It simply shows the real hell here on the gulf coast.
Aww, sheesh, not this doo-doo again. LOL
I think Harrigan is doing the best job, except he is on the sat phone. He is going to a lot of different places.
I agree with your assessment of Shep's report last night.
I personally don't want to see "establishment of a task force" type reporting when the human suffering is continuing and needs a spokesman (Shep) to get the word out. He is reporting on the 'reality' that is occuring.....not giving us pablum. If it's too gritty for some, they can change the channel.
The body he showed today was at a distance....and unless he had identified what it was, it would have looked much like a pile of refuse. The body, he told us, had been respectfully covered with a blanket by someone. But at least we weren't being fed some white-washed report. I have heard other channels and reporters say they can't show the reality of the situation for fear of bothering too many people.
And he is absolutley correct, right now, the city of N.O. IS dead.
True enough.
It is called selective reality.
The people on the ground there see the devastation, rotting corpses, hungry children, etc and are not put off by the sight of a corpse. For them, that is reality.
To the air conditioned, well-fed crowd, a corpse on TV may be too much for them to bear.
I wonder if this generation would have tolerated the deprivations of the Great Depression or World War II as well as ancestors did?
The reality of the New Orleans is that once the relief effort finally gets organized and on site; it will be too late for the thousands trapped there.
I have to commend him for sticking it out in this war zone as long as he has. But sometimes, I think he's eating with just one chopstick.
Welcome and I hope it gets better for you soon.
I'm usually, on normal days, annoyed by Shep Smith; BUT, he has been trying for days to get some attention to the plight of those people on I-10... I don't see why food and supplies can't be airdropped down to all those people all over N.O. who are stranded. just drop the food, etc. down to them to keep them alive till they get moved out of there. I don't think that would be so hard to do.
I don't know if that's the same interview I saw w/Shep & a police officer or not. What I saw was a police officer that had no answers to his questions and work to do - he did tell Shep there wasn't any water to give to people. After that Shep started yelling at him - why not? why not?, why stay for cr*p like that?. Like the police can do anything about that.
Shep likes to stir trouble up and I don't appreciate his anti-administration comments.
I have no problem with the showing of dead bodies...that is news, sad as it is. It's the personal comments that I find to be out of line, and I don't mean personal observations, just the ant-Bush type comments and that we are all going to die stuff.
Why not? The news should be the news, not some sanitized PC-fantasy.
Even before I read your comment I was thinking this about Shep...a sickeing and strangely disgusting man.
Vain and self absorbed to the point of ridiculousness.
I agree - can someone seriously explain why more isn't being done? I mean bodies in the streets, people literally starving on freeways? Is it all because of the looter gangstas?
It is called NEWS.
In TV, you show pictures.
Deal with it.
It isn't grandstanding.
