This is a confession. I have been a registered dem for 8 years. I consider myself conservative in the sense that I believe that hard work and love of country will take you far. I am an atheist, but have felt the presence of a higher force. I think politicians are useless people. I was born in India, but when my family moved here, I was taken care of by rednecks in the deep south. There is a divine force that guides this country. And I am tired of my friends in New York whose first reflexive reaction in life is to blame my country for all the problems of the world. So I will leave the Democratic party. I won't join the Republicans. I will only vote for men like Andrew Jackson, Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Harry Truman, and Ronald Reagan.
"I will only vote for men like Andrew Jackson, Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Harry Truman, and Ronald Reagan."
Ping me when someone like that shows up from either party.
My thoughts, exactly...
I will only vote for conservatives. Please tell me when one comes along.
I didn't leave the Democratic party...the Democratic party left me.
--Ronald Reagan
He sure let the Jihadi's walk all over us....cut and run with his tail between his legs in Beirut after 250 Marines were murdered.
Ah, but Andrew Jackson, Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Harry Truman, and Ronald Reagan all had their detractors at the time they were doing great things. And like President Bush, they just ignored their detractors and trudged forward into history. And it's on looking back that we can all see their greatness.
Yeah. And he let the Soviets win the Cold War too.
Ditto on that.
That is a contradiction in terms. Jackson, Lincoln, TR, Truman and Reagan were all good politicians in their day. But only two were great American presidents. That would be Lincoln & Reagan.
"But only two were great American presidents."
Post #8 is right: all were vilified in their own time. Only history determines who is a great president, and popularity isn't the test (viz, Clinton).
I think you will be surprised how many here are independent moderate conservatives who have been completely turned off by the direction the Democratic party has been moving in the past few decades. I recently told a friend of mine who is a Democrat that I would never even consider voting for a Democratic candidate as long as that party gave people like Michael Moore a place of honor. Sadly, it appears that the Democratic party has more or less been taken over by people who stand for nothing more than hating President Bush.
Oh, now can't we include TR in that too? He listened to Mahan, built the navy, and secured the nation's coasts.
DemocRat=Liberal
Republican=Conservative
Independent=Republican who Swore would never be Republican
Libertarian=Independent who smokes dope
Pray for W and Our Freedom Fighters
A good friend of mine here in Tucson who was a registered democrat changed his registration to independent out of disgust with what he was seeing in that party. BTW, he voted for Bush.
"Libertarian=Independent who smokes dope"
Heh, heh, heh...that's pretty funny. Oh man, where the hell did the post button go...uh...wait. Whoa man, I'm soooooo hungry. Dude!
