Grocery stores around the company should be seeing a run soon when people start to panic about food getting to their local store.

I went to a grocery store on Tuesday afternoon -- sorry I wasted my gas doing so. We were without power & I was trying to find some ice and non-perishable food. There wasn't a crust of bread, a cookie, a cracker, an apple, or anything else left in that store. I walked to a convenience store last night to try to get some milk & bread, but they still didn't have power and were not open.

I just had a call from my daughter's babysitter in Alexandria. I told her about KALB's newscast in which the law enforcement officials are vehemently denying an increase in crime here this week. She told me that she personally knew of two incidents at Super 1 Foods in which people had their groceries stolen from them.

If we don't get some help to the refugee families, the same people who were maxing out their credit cards for dinner at Applebee's on the first few nights of their hotel stay could potentially end up stealing to feed their children within a matter of weeks.

I noticed that after that bizarre newscast on KALB, they cut to a Hurricane Relief Fund telethon. I think it's a great idea to donate to an Alexandria-based telethon because it will keep the money right here where it's needed and I'll post the number next time it comes on the screen. It later occurred to me that perhaps KALB is suppressing the real story because they don't want to put telethon viewers in a less generous frame of mind.

Pardon the pun, but it's food for thought...
