President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.
Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

Tropical Storm 12
It's like a third world country now. The thugs would confiscate the water, probably, or there'd be a riot over the water. I did hear that NG trucks were driving through the town dropping off supplies of water, and everybody I've seen since about noon seems to have water.
A friend of mine said an interesting thing today. I said, "It's getting serious because they've gone 72 hours without water" and she replied, "Well they've already proved to us you can go 12 days without water, just remember Terri Schiavo."
What you are seeing is FEMA trying to implement a wargamed plan based on a CENTRAL collection point, then moving people through the system quickly for aid, comfort and benefits, to get them up as quickly as possible....
"Dropping Off" water is exactly WHY little is getting through to the Central Zone!
Oh he was just joshing with me!
Notice who the object of folks getting upset would be. That's why I find it amazing she would say that. She's worried more about her own butt and the liberal program than the folks living out the hell outside her "command post".
This is a great opportunity to kull the welfare class in New Orleans.
That is the most disgusting thing I've seen on FR in a long time. You remind me of another person who wanted to eliminate the undesireables.
Okay. Can you also tell the people attacking me by calling me names and distorting what I say to knock it off, too? I'd appreciate it.
I read that too, and he lived in 9th Ward, one of those places that are completely underwater.
Oh yeah. Well I just got an e-mail from my mother's cousin's girlfriend, who used to date the NG general who is in charge at the dome, and he said they're haven't been any murders or rapes inside.
BTW: The National Guard is running things inside the dome so what makes you think your Houston SWAT team buddy would have any idea?
You are supporting CNN's lies when you make statements like that.
And who is to question why one did not leave. Perhaps a lack of available flights by the time it was confirmed that NO was the target of Katrina?
Please stop insulting our collective intelligence; she was at the Ritz Carlton for her anniversary; if she can afford the Ritz, she could have gotten out of town. Like the hundreds of other thousands did.
Face it, she bet it would turn and she lost.
Find me another U.S. President who put FEMA in the staging positions before the storm hit. Find me another U.S. President who authorized National Guard troops being staged as early. Blanco said today that busses went through the city and were available for people to get on. They chose to ride it out. "Real" reporting wouldn't be talking about ANY U.S. President visiting a zone where gunfire is going on. "Real" reporting would understand that Marine 1 in the air means a disruption in rooftop rescues. Take a history lesson. Camille was the measuring point for storms in that area. It had 200+ mph winds but the circle of those winds was much smaller than the 145+ mph winds that extended out over 100 miles from the center. 30 miles of coastline, 10 blocks back has dissappeared from the earth. Maybe you don't have skin in that game down there, I do and so do several others so take a clue and get some facts before you post dribble.
I think dropping water or food by air would be VERY dangerous. People would be killed in the stampede.
Doing great now that I have AC...no damage done, just terribly upset about the thugs, Blanko, and wishing they would drop food and water to those poor people.
You don't read the international press do you?
Have you seen any reports on Hastert's comments?
This thread is her business.
Knock it off.
Did you know folks know about Freepmail? It's really cool.
