President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.
Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

Tropical Storm 12
We're all on edge; I'm sorry for being so snappy.
If it's this bad now, just wait til the sun goes down.
He's got a point. Look at the situation outside the Convention Center...thousands stranded for days with no food or water except what they've been able to loot from inside the concession areas, SEVEN DEAD BODIES STILL THERE, no evacuation, no information. If the AP presstitutes and TV crews can get there, then somebody else can get there with food, water, and medicine.
I don't know who dropped the ball here--city authorities in New Orleans, the state of Louisiana, FEMA, DHS, the National Guard, hell, maybe the Tooth Fairy for all I know--but this thing is turning into a fustercluck of totally epic proportions. This is not just garden-variety governmental incompetence like when the DMV screws up your driving records. This is incompetence that is killing people.
And I know this is no time for politics, but think about this--the MSM WILL turn this back around on Bush. Nagin and Blanco will get an undeserved pass; the entirety of the horrendous response to this will be blamed on the Federal government and the Bush administration. Bank on it.

Thank you for those reports!
It is in everyone's best interest (at leasr economically) to get the situation in NO normalized.
he needs to make an appeal to US corporations to allow their employees to telecommute where possible, work 4x10 weeks, etc. that can save alot of gasoline used for people commuting back and forth to work. I would also cut back postal service mail delivery to 4 days per week to save fuel.
I have heard many leftists say that Bush slashed $20 million from FEMA funds that would have been used to reinforce the levee system in New Orleans.
Question: How much was left? Was the cut $20 out of $21? or $20 out of $120?
If anyone knows, please post it. I really need a good comeback for this one.
TIA
I KNEW IT----I knew that no matter what he said just now, that even people on FR would bitch...sheesh!!!

I don't know if you have a network of friends worth pinging to that thread or not but feel free!
Clinton grinning from ear to ear, joking with someone on the way out of the room.
Typical.
These officials are nuts! Why arent the leaving armed troops
at the hospitals?
I noticed Clinton tried to speak, but Pres walked off, so 41 took 42 by the arm and led them off behind the President! This is a frightening disaster, caused by nature, made worse by the few/many disrupters and our disgraceful national media.
Talking about the evacuation of Big Charity ...
Yeah I know, I just wish he would have focused more on the getting it fixed part and not the what's broke part.
worse than I could have ever imagined...
Wasn't Harrigan's report amazing? Really gave the feel that the calvary had arrived.
Whatever Bill Cosby would have to say
it would be very articulate.
President Bush, in a move worthy of a Grandmaster, has pulled every political fang by appointing Clinton and Bush Senior to head the....relief efforts.
Does Bill know he just cost his wife a possible Presidency by accepting?
What do you mean exacerbate the problem?
