FNC reporting that tourists in some hotels have been kicked out because hotel staff felt it was too unsafe for anyone to stay in NO. Problem is, people don't know where to go and are unfamiliar with the city.
ROFL!
Hey Soledad, how about blaming the scum that are causing all the problems, you twit!
Preparation.
Don't get me wrong, someone will have to answer for that, but she's wailing like something can be done today. It's a wonder that she wasn't in tears.
Looking for two armed security people to get the Mayor?
Mayor wants to pay a visit.
This is what I've been saying on other threads when people are complaining about the president not sending the military in.
Secretary Chertoff made it clear in yesterday's Homeland Security briefing that active military does not operative in this country unless requested specifically by the Governor of a state. It sounded like something had to be formally signed.
Does anyone know if the Governor of LA has signed anything that permits active military (besides the National Guard) to operate in NO?
The hotels are probably worried about being sued. I wonder if they ever considered they may be sued for kicking people out into a war zone?
Now they are calling for armed escort for the mayor? I was in kitchen..
I keep saying that Soledad is gorgeous to look at, but once she opens her mouth, she shows that she's dumb as a box of rocks.
Interesting. She probably doesn't understand the concept of this sort of failure taking decades to build up.
FNC: 30 people evacuated from Tulane Hospital; had left kids in intensive care. WIfe and son of one family were airlifted out by helicopter and taken to Houston. Father left behind.
Bump! Good info, thanks.
I know it. Much more dangerous on the streets. Horrific experience for everyone but imagine being a tourist in that city right now.
Interestingly, the Astrodome is available partly because Bud Adams moved the Oilers to TN. I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason.
BTW, Steve McNair and Brett Favre teamed up to send down a truckload of supplies. They're also raising money. My two favorite QB's step up!
Here's some stuff that the USDA (mostly - might be some Interior involved with this cause its using personel that manage wildland fire as part of the staff) is doing to help with organization and logistics:
HURRICANE KATRINA SUPPORT, Federal Emergency Management Agency. Emergency Support Function #4 is staffed at the Regional Response Coordination Centers in Atlanta, GA and Denton, TX. Three Type 1 Incident Management Teams (Custer, Quesinberry and Pincha-Tulley) are assigned. Custer's Team is working to establish a base camp in Port Allen, LA. Quesinberry's Team is assigned to a logistics staging area in Meridian, MS. Pincha-Tulley's Team will establish and manage a base camp at Stennis Space Center in MS. Two additional Type 1 Incident Management Teams (Gelobter and Cable) have been ordered. A Type 2 Incident Management Team (Lineback) is providing mobilization center support at Pineville, LA. A Planning Team is in place at the Long Term Recovery Center in Orlando, FL.
Five Logistics Management Teams have been mobilized; two at Meridian, MS, and one each at Maxwell Air Force Base, Montgomery, AL, Barksdale Air Force Base, LA and Beauregard, LA. A Florida State All Risk Incident Management Team (Hill) has been assigned to Biloxi, MS. The Team is providing logistical support for Florida Urban Search and Rescue teams. A Florida State Incident Management Team (Jones) has established a Logistics Staging Area at Stennis Space Center in MS. The Team is helping with distribution of relief supplies throughout southern Mississippi. A National Park Service All Risk Team has been ordered for Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve in New Orleans.
This is true of every aspect of this, even the first disaster declaration - the Governor of the state has to request it. Jeb Bush did so right off the bat last year, and that was one of the reasons Florida (although our disaster wasn't on this scale) got help so quickly. Plus, of course, he had a plan.
