President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.
Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

God help those poor people.
Right. Howlin, I'm not having trouble understanding any of this.
Me too. Posts have mentioned prisoners released and word that unable to protect people. Hope it is not true.
Okay . . . what the heck . . . another FR world exclusive . . . I'm gonna ping the mods to add something to thread title . . .
Actually, it's worse than that; they're embarassed because deep in their hearts that is what they EXPECT blacks to do.
Just like Shep saying "They need somebody to tell them what to do."
What makes you think that NOLA and Jeff parish released their prisoners? Trust me...they havent and wont
I hope the cornered rat is delt with "ruthlessly".
Anyone have more info on the rumor two looters were shot about an hour ago?
rs
It a complete societal breakdown not unlike the last moments on the Titanic. There just isn't another comparison that comes to mind.
Oh NO!
It doesn't belong in this long thread.... people shouldn't have to hunt through a thousand posts to find it. Post a new one.
I sincerely hope you're not a Texan.
They released COUNTY prisoners...
STATE Prison inmates were transferred!
Race riots in LA come to mind
Folks I had to restart that link a cpl of times and it's saying the same things over and over again it's not a live feed. This is taped....
This whole week has just been unreal. These things don't happen in the real world, and yet here we are watching them happen in real-time.
You see, the smokescreen of false race accusations is not helpful, and you should not have invoked it. The question is whether a gang of people should be allowed to steal a bus and go seek refuge in Houston. I disagree with that because such would only promote lawlessness in New Orleans, which is very destructive. Disagree with me on that and we can respectfully debate the issue. Sling false accusations, and you are just being petty.
Yeah... but even with that you had some attempts at control. Here, there doesn't seem to be any attempt or ability.
Thanks DV
How do you think it's taped? Over and over again when? I haven't heard anything repeat yet in an hour.
Just scanning the posts and hearing of prisoners released, possible bus hijackings, shooting of soldier, major breakins.
Sounds like prisoners looting, getting guns, stealing buses and getting out of Dodge.
Sure hope they have not been released - that would be idiocy.
But, don't have time to wade through a 1000 posts to get the facts.
