I was thinking they should go public with a statement that once the SD is evacuated, all looters surviving their capture will be kept inside the Superdome.

This evening on our local news (WBTV) just heard that 125 patients will be arriving at area Charlotte, NC, hospitals tomorrow. These patients are from a hospital in Kenner, LA. A local hospital in Rock Hill, SC, should be receiving some of the patients tonight the remainder will arrive tomorrow.
Also, 10 firefighters from CLT are on their way down there or already are there--water rescuers. This from a CLT firefighter friend.

Sad but LSU is doing things. The sound of the copters coming and going all day was oddly reassuring.
Someone posted an email from Billy Martin upthread that describes the situation better than I could.

Reading topo maps is not everyone's cup of tea. About 60% of NO is below sea level, about 15% more than 5 feet above sea level.

There are 22 drainage pumping stations in NO. They cost millions of $ to build. Bringing in portable pumps will not help the major problems. At full capacity the NO pumping stations can pump over 1 billion gallons of water per hour. This will not solve the entire problem however as the pumping will increase the level of Lake Ponchartrain also. Eventually Lake Ponchartrain will return to a more normal, pre-storm level and the water will flow again to the lake via the canals in NO.

A Louisiana State Trooper directs rescue personnel through the I-10 roadblock on the way to New Orleans to help people stranded by floodwaters.
CNN just showed the opening of the gate at the Astrodome property and the first refugees arriving.

I do. It won't stop them from demagoguing the issue anyway.
What really burns me is that the two idiots in charge aren't going to be tried for dereliction. Martial law still hasn't been declared down there and its just getting worse with the siege at the two hospitals.
To: cajungirl
I saw a large crowd lining up and getting their care packages. Obviously this was a group from the downside ghetto area. Thank goodness they got out with their lives.
But I watched with the TV sound down, as this exhausted Red Cross worker was handing out these food packs, lightning fast one after another. With the exception of ONE young girl who smiled sincerely and I could see her lips mouth the two simple words "THANK YOU" and look her helper straight in the eye with appreciation, but for the most part, nearly evey person rushed up, grabbed his or her bag, with averted or cast-down vision, walked away, with not even so much as a word of 'thanks' to those humanitarian workers. It all reeked of an atmosphere of perverted sense of entitlement and social welfare. I guess that is the subculture that has taken root there. Sad.

I was watching that as well. When I heard that rescuers had to stop hospital evacuations because of selfish people trying to steal the rescue boats and to have their generator stolen as well, I was appalled! It is shameful that criminals are preventing those trying to help from doing their jobs. This one seemed right up there with the looters terrorizing the hospitals.
Also on this broadcast on CNN, evacuees trying to get into the Astrodome and being turned away because they are not part of the Superdome group. My question is, what to do with these peo[ple. Wouldn't it be easier and lead to eventual rebuilding in New Orleans, if FEMA was to rent land outside of the city, and set up a tent/trailer city as they did after Hurricane Andrew? This city really helped to end some of the problems we had immediately following the storm with looting etc.

Am getting all this info in email but yet we hear NOTHING about what the military is doing from the MSM. I want to take all of these and shove them in Aaron Brown's face not to mention the Governor and Mayor's faces.
