President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.
Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

New thread - sorry about the delay
You're doing a great job, NN.
I agree.
Heartbreak after heartbreak everytime I see the television. There have been 2 babies born in the Dome, I heard. Almost unimaginable. So much help is on the way. I think the next 24 hours may bring some improvment. I am hopeful.
What would we do without you. Who ever would have thought that this is what we were coming together to witness.
Grateful, as alway NautiNurse.
You are a credit to FReepers everywhere.
Anyone watching FOX? I can't believe how little information is being deciminated to these people. What good is all these press conferences with the Governor and Mayor if no one has power or TV's to hear them? Why aren't they there on the scene with their sleeves rolled up and HELPING like Jeb Bush in Florida does?
Radios... should be some radios out there.
......and?
Thanx for the ping. Sad beyond belief.
Have we seen anything from the southernmost areas of LA..where the storm first hit?
Well sure. Everyone know white folk don't loot. /sarc
Please post links to as many of these NGIA satellite images of the coastline as are available to the public:

I don't see any radios on any of those people... what i see is babies in need of water, milk, food, shade and sitting on a freaking freeway with parents in total despair... Shep, himself, is in despair for them... the hospitals are overwelmed and giving patients ventilation manually....
great post. thanks.
Thank you for the thread. I found out last night that we lost everything. I live in Gautier but evacuated to Atlanta on Sunday morning. My daughters went back yesterday (big mistake) to check things out. For whatever reason my daughters cell phone (cellular south) is getting a sporadic signal if the number she calls is long distance. She called hysterical (I wont forget her words as long as I live, or her voice) "The house is gone" the next sentence was worse because now I'm having hate in my heart. "the neighbor ran a bunch of black guys out who were looting" Wow....this sucks. My daughter and her boyfriend lost both of their cars, I lost one car and the mail wall was blown off of my house. The roof came DOWN into my bedroom. Please pray for me.
