BALTIMORE (August 31, 2005) Emergency managers up the east coast and elsewhere are reporting serious gas shortages.
"We may be facing a major fuel supply situation," reported a county-level emergency manager in South Carolina. "We in this county are cutting all non-essential services such as garbage pickup. It is a developing situation."
Gas stations in upstate South Carolina reported they were running out of gas. "The state is telling us the pipeline that services the northeast has been disrupted at the supply point in Louisiana, and that it will take a week and half for it to reach us," he said. "A lot of gas stations are out and closed in this area."
In North Carolina, a gas station on U.S. 74 reported it had only premium gas left and was selling it for $2.99. Station managers say they are unable to get gas from their suppliers. A nearby competitor station reported it had to close altogether because it was out of all fuel.
In Michigan, gas prices were as high as $3.92 for unleaded regular in Garden City, just one of many stations with high prices in the Detroit metro area. Forty percent of Michigans gas comes from the Gulf Coast.
Hurricane Katrina shut down a number of oil platforms, refineries and pipelines.
What a grand waste of gas. Why don't towns and cities change these laws NOW and make the light blinking yellow when at all possible. I hate stopping at time like that, and it is a huge waste of gas when you think of everyone all over the country who has to stop like that!
Well, I guess there's an advantage to having that huge Colonial Pipeline "tank farm" in Greensboro after all.
Well, I was a part of the run on gas, topping off yesterday after filling up Monday. I guess it's to the grocery store next for me.
There are refineries all over the country.
EPA has relaxed standards so that gas can be moved between markets.
There are pipelines all over the country. There's one within 7 miles of my house (I live in upstate New York) that brings petroleum products all the way from Texas.
New Orleans is not the source of all energy in the USA.
Rumors and panic are doing us no good. I've never heard of the "Disaster News Network."
Come on, Freepers.
(steely)
Kennedy, Kerry, Snowe, Schumer, Boxer, and other will filibuster any attempt to damage our environment.
You are not supposed to be driving those awful cars -- only allowed for rich, liberal, Hollywood types.
Maybe in the 120th Congress...
Good grief... get a GRIP people... What is this, like the tenth newbie panic thread today?
I think somebody went way long on his gas futures day trading and is trying to recover his losses.
The environmental wackos won't allow it. They want gas at $5 a gallon no matter what.
A bit paranoid on my part, but I understand food supply and inventory very well. If trucking breaks down, all bets are off.
A pipe wrench will tear any locking gas cap from the filler tube. Save your $!
I was at a gas station here in Northern Virginia just 30min ago, and they were completely out of gas. The station manager told me he had been calling around to suppliers, but he can't get any. As I was leaving I noticed the Exxon station next door was out of all gas except for premium unleaded. I hope this is just isolated, but I don't know. The local radio and TV aren't saying anything at the moment about gas supply.
Here in WNC there have already been lines, the prices are jacked up to 2.99+ a gallon. I've heard of stations that are out of gas and some of those left are only allowing police and ambulances to get the gas. Kinda scary
WOW! I am so HAPPY!
I filled up this morning at $2.57!!!! What a great move!!!
Yahooo!!!!!
Give it a few weeks it will all be better. Except those people who died, they wont get better.
Yeah everybody selling diesel is loving this, nothing serious has happened to the diesel supply but they generally keep the price up near gas.
So you don't see a problem? Wait a couple of days and get back to me.
Question? Are Americans the ones making this worse then what it oughta be? Why are folk rushing to the gas pumps when they should just chill and wait for things to settle. I heard folks who have pumped extra gas in cans and are storing them in their homes...WHAT GIVES? I think the mediaWHORES have finally succeed in scaring the folk off! Americans NEED to come together and show solitary with one another. The Katrina looters have already shown the world how despicable we can get when confronted with a calamity! SO SAD! We, as Americans are better than that!! :(
Sounds like a major mobilization to drink about 100,000 gallons of petrol...
After all, animals are more important than people right now... [/sarcasm off -- need to take off the liberal mindset hat]
Pilot Truckstops relesed a news story that their pimps will be dry in 48 hours unless pipelines are restored. Does not sound like gougeing to me, rather a very serious supply problem.
"I just returned from a trip into Ohio and back to WV. Regular in Ohio was 3.29 a gallon and 3.09 in WV. Heard on cb that TA at 34 mile (1-64) marker in WV was out of fuel and Flying J at 185 (I-64) in KY was also out..I seen several stations on the trip that were closed and out of gas.The pilot at exit 45 (I-64) was out of fuel since late last night."
Master the roll through. Tucson uses the detectors in most intersection so at 0hdark:30 you can usually fly through the city.
