Daybreak, you are so very welcome. And the phone situation is the most very likely scenerio. Hold that thought.
After 9/11, my family designated a "meeting place," should there ever forward be a situation of tragedy in which we either lose communication with one another, or quickly need to be all together for any reason.

Same here but I'd even expand it. I think the leadership of all three states dropped the ball. Alabama and Ms. are getting up to speed but this effort has have strong central leadership, a defined chain of command and access to resources. That puts President Bush right at the top of the chain and I can't tell you how relieved I felt after listening to him and Chertoff today.
Both understand that the number one issue right now is the preservation of life. Everything else is second.

The powers that be
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
The powers that be is a quotation from the Bible (King James Version) that has become proverbial, with the meaning the established political powers. It occurs in Romans 13:1. 'Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: The powers that be are ordained of God.'
Specific meanings are:

Please keep it on the thread, thanks.
Bush listed assets for the benefit of the people in the landing zone, so to speak, not for your benefit nor mine. When people are hungry, thirsty and hot it gives them hope to hear that help is on the way.

Thanks for disagreeing in such a gracious and level-headed manner. That is so very welcome here! I will remember your goodness.
And I will remember your goodness in not attacking me for respectfully disagreeing. I don't post too much lately as I've noticed that even polite opposing opinion can draw big flames and I have no interest in verbal brawls.

I'm doing great, Christian. Although I'll be glad when the cooler weather gets here :-) How are you lately? I'm okay, I guess. Just picking my spots and regulating my blood pressure (by not listening to liberals)...what the heck was I thinking, getting involved in politics? Oh yeah...2000 recount...9-11...and a country that IS worth fighting and dying for...
It's been hot here on the Left Coast (California), land of fruits, nuts, Boxer, Feinstein, Pelosi, Maxine Waters, et.al. It's starting to cool off some. Just trying to do what I can to support the President and the country, even if all I can do is type and pray. Thanks for asking!

In my view Bush and Chertoff were excellent today, He asuaged a lot of my fears that they didn't know what the hell they were doing. When he said it would take years to rebuild, I knew he knew exactly what he was doing. For once, I both support and am greatly relieved that the feds have taken the bit from the states. The difference in reactions between democrat Gov. Blanco(catatonic)and Republican Gov. Haley Barbour(brave and stoic) is literally like the old adage of the difference between night and day.

Yeah, Barbour's been good post storm and Blanco is, well, a disaster. She just doesn't make you wanna pick your weapon and follow her if you know what I mean.

Even the panel on Brit Hume. These people need to get out of Washington once in awhile. All they're capable of thinking about is politics.

Please keep it on the thread, thanks. Sure...no prob...here's what I sent you:

Sigh...you completely missed the point, and I bet you didn't hear the speech...
He did a laundry list of "36 this and 48 that."
Get my point? A President should say we're sending generators. Period.
Pls read my posts before slamming me. You may disagree...but please, at least, get my point.
I try to handle hostile people one-on-one...but it didn't work in this case.

Excuse me but I don't live where there is any transportation except my car and I don't intend to walk over a mile to go to the grocery and a mile coming back.
I am also not complaining about the cost of gasoline.

You know what's funny...I thought people would complain about the numbers he gave ("That's too low; he needs to send MORE right NOW!") but lo and behold, all they complained about was his delivery.

I did not hear the President's speech, but I looked over at NRO the Corner and the comments showed clear disappointment. These are conservative, pro-Bush commentators so this is a concern. One said that the President seemed "defeatist".
Even Brit Hume seemed disappointed with the President. We are all pulling for him and want him to lead us through this crisis, but I don't know what has happened to the WH communications team.
I wondering if all the beating up the President is taking on Iraq and other things is taking a toll on him and maybe he is discouraged.

This recovery will take years. Translation: for a conservative, this means "It will take years". For a liberal this means "Why isn't it done yet??"

I'm not hostile and you couldn't handle me anyway. :-}
I simply think your view of the speeches today from Bush and Chertoff is wrong. Don't lose any sleep over it but if you can't take criticism you're probably on the wrong forum.
To: Patriot from Philly
One said that the President seemed "defeatist".Then he didn't listen to President Bush. He must've been tuned into Blanco. I mean it's just such a stupid comment.

You might have me there, I'll have to check with the Guv's office if any treats from the Chesapeake Bay made it on the C-130s.

Agreed. I shut off Brit's show when they started obsessing over useless photo ops the President should have engaged in. he isn't Hillary Clinton.
