It is with heavy heart I write this...
I have finally reconnected with my best friend who is a paramedic who was sent from Georgia 2 days ago to Gulf Port, Mississippi before the hurricane hit.
He just reached me within the last 10 mins via emergency cell phone to tell me he was alive.
Thousands of bodies have been discovered throughout Mississippi in Gulf Port, Waveland,Hancock County,Bay of St.Louis.
They are hanging in trees and they are pulling them out 30 at a time. Entire families found drowned in their homes and washing up on shore.
The stories he could tell me were brief. National Guard is on the scene and arresting anyone seen on the streets.
The numbers are staggering and what I have been told tonight will shake people to their foundation as the numbers will be coming out in the next 24-hours of just how many people have actually perished in these and 3 other beach communities.
More to follow....
When you speak with him next, tell him that a bunch of us are praying with and for him, for his herculean effort, and with the grace only G_d can provide.
Mississippi ping.
Oh, Dear Lord...
Prayers sent for the survivors and those working so hard to recsue them...
We've still seen so little of this... what we have seen is incredibly horrific. I mentioned what happened in Galveston last night on one of the hurricane threads and was quickly told I was wrong.. This looks like Galveston on a larger scale in my opinion. The before and after high resolution shots of the area show extreme physical changes to the landscape. This wall of water meant business, and no one who came in contact with it in a regular frame structure had much chance of living.
I also hope for the best, but I'm also planning for the worst.
Anyone know about conditions in Slidell? I have an uncle there and i still don't know if he got out or not..
I am not sure if anyone else caught this but on CNN Monday morning two students, a male and female, from Tulane (I think) were being interviewed. One, the male, was wearing a tie-dye peace sign T-shirt.
When asked why he stayed in New Orleans he said, chuckling and sounding and acting much like Jeff Spicoli, "My parents wanted me to stay" then said "This is fun." Maybe not exact quotes but close to it. I wonder how this child feels now?
The focus of the threat was on New Orleans, not MS.

A legit news report that mentions a large amount of dead bodies...
When you hear from your friend again, please let him know that all Americans are so grateful for people like him, our paramedics. They save our lives every day, and now in a crisis like this, they are the only hope for so many. God bless him.
I just can't pray hard enough for the people who have been caught up in this horrifying tragedy. :(
I have been expecting this considering the lack of commucnications and resources.
Oh my, just oh my. This is reality hitting hard. I've been dreading this news.
My God, I was afraid this was going to happen. I lived there for two and half years on my sailboat when I worked at Mississippi Army Ammunition Plant. For those of you that are familiar with my post about my boat, "Georgia Peach II" and "Peaches the Cat" who lived with me, this is where I was talking about. I had the boat in both Pass Christian and Bay St. Louis. I have lost part of my life. Please pray for these poor people.
Worse than Galveston 1900.
That is terrible :-(
Ping!
My son came home from work and said "thousands" and I told him he was mis-informed.
My brain can't wrap around this.
I'm in the newspaper business (sad but true) ... if you were able to get this information from your friend, I can't understand why the MSM isn't reporting this. What are they waiting for ... official confirmation? Surely, they can get someone to talk - anyone.
Heavenly Father, we come to You with heavy hearts. Oh Lord, SUCH devastation...
Lord, please help the living, help them be rescued very soon. Comfort the families who've lost their loved ones and their homes. Time is running out for so many, Lord. I pray for all of the rescue workers, for the police, the National Guard...Lord, give them the strength they're going to need to deal with this tragic situation.
We pray, God, for the children, for the ill, for the elderly. Lord, I ask you to soften the hearts of the looters, to make them STOP now...to stop this madness.
Oh Lord, we're hurting...please hear our prayer. In Your Holy Name,
Amen
