It is with heavy heart I write this...
I have finally reconnected with my best friend who is a paramedic who was sent from Georgia 2 days ago to Gulf Port, Mississippi before the hurricane hit.
He just reached me within the last 10 mins via emergency cell phone to tell me he was alive.
Thousands of bodies have been discovered throughout Mississippi in Gulf Port, Waveland,Hancock County,Bay of St.Louis.
They are hanging in trees and they are pulling them out 30 at a time. Entire families found drowned in their homes and washing up on shore.
The stories he could tell me were brief. National Guard is on the scene and arresting anyone seen on the streets.
The numbers are staggering and what I have been told tonight will shake people to their foundation as the numbers will be coming out in the next 24-hours of just how many people have actually perished in these and 3 other beach communities.
More to follow....

Does anyone know anything about Laurel Mississippi? My parents have a friend that lives there and they are concerned about him. Were they flooded?

Voodoo, infanticide, the extreme excesses of Mardi Gras etc. are not ways to win God's favor. Or, it could be another bet God had with Satan. Job hadn't done anything to deserve his earthly punishment. There is no cause and effect. Sh!t happens. You just try to live life the best you can and hope you aren't randomly selected for getting screwed by life.

The death toll in this hard-hit county rose to more than 100, but officials believe that number will rise. "There's so much rubble, we won't know for a while. But I fully expect the number to be in the hundreds," said Jason Green, assistant to the Harrison County coroner.
The numbers are indeed certain to rise, certainly into the hundreds, perhaps more than a thousand.
But you may notice there's no reason to believe that this assistant to the coroner would now, 12 hours later, be unaware of the thousands of dead in the killer trees or the entire families who neatly stacked themselves up in groups on the beach. You would think that our intrepid anonymous rescuer might have phoned the coroner's office with a body count or to verify where to put the dead bodies, wouldn't you?

80% (or so) of the posts here have misspelling and other grammatical errors. Somehow, we manage to understand what was being communicated... We don't read literally, we use our reasoning power to understand what was being said. What was being said in this case was pretty clear whether or not it was grammatically perfect...

In Texas there is no such thing as a mandatory evacuation. All athorities can do is strongly urge people to leave.

I didn't think that short duration of submersion would allow the caskets to float out of the ground. In this case, this should be about example of MS given in this thread.
In Texas when new lakes are built, old cemetaries are moved but for multiple reasons.

I am puzzled at posters who cannot extrapolate that when a public official uses the language 'what i am authorized to say' regarding casualty counts, that the current numbers are WAY off, not by 10 or 20.

Oh no. My Dad's neighbor hasn't heard from his sister or mother who live in Gulf Port. They were going to ride the storm out at home. My Dad's neighbor and his family are very nice people and were more than willing to help me out while my Dad was ill. Hard at prayer now.

"Yes, have you seen the video from Gulfport and Biloxi?"
I've been watching video from various ources for about 24 hours.
"You've backed yourself into a corner with your position in this thread"
Not any more than the folks on here that belive that MFH posted a credible story.
Staking out a position on a certain topic does not mean I've backed into any kind of corner.
It simply means that I've taken a different view of this than others.

The flooded areas of MS may also be near sea level so the burial could be above ground there as well.

"Pay close attention to which countries do or do not offer assistance and what their comments on the situation are. Time for long memories...'
I will not forget the comments of the German Chancellor for the rest of my life! Saying the USA caused the storm by not signing the Kyoto treaty! How totally disgusting.

I tried to leave it at that...but I was attacked by certain posters in here barely after the post appeared.

Are you missing every other post? Barbour and others have already said they are concentrating on rescue right now; counting the dead undoubtedly is going on, but it will not be the focus until the living are taken care of.

They folded their arms in front of themselves and blinked. There was also the possibility there were many pairs of ruby slippers in the area. Why would you inject the logic of the primary mode of transportation as an indicator of how few people evacuated and extrapolate into how many casualties there were?
