Does anyone know if a lot of small boats can be brought from up and down the Gulf coast for rescues??? Sounds like they've got to get every last human out of NO asap. I know it's very different circumstances, but if the Brits could improvise and rescue 340,000 soldiers out of Dunkirk in 1940 (under German fire), I would think there ought to be a way to have a similar armada of small boats taking people out of NO tonight..... but I'm just an armchair meditator 1500 miles away, I'll be the first to admit it!

All I know is that I am underwhelmed by the federal response.

The biggest problem with a massive flotilla in a disaster like this is that the boats themselves will eventually run out of fuel -- and it isn't going to be easy to refuel them when the entire metropolitan area is out of commission.
