They are the largest retailer for a reason I guess.
I agree with you.
Alcoholic beverages have a dehydrating effect.
most reasonable people realize this, unfortunately the clutter on these threads from the others makes it hard to even come here.
The levees are breached on the lake, so assuming it is the same bowl, the river is just traveling through town. If it is not the same bowl, and I suspect it is not, that is indeed why the 9th ward and St. Bernard are 15 feet underwater.

Thank GOD, I say again, thank GOD that the thing did not hit NO head on. What is happening now would have occured while the thing was lashing the city.
Yeah, that was my take - 'lake water' as opposed to 'river water.' That is a very meaningful distinction. If it was the latter it would mean it is going to get a LOT higher, and a LOT faster. If there were a river breach, no one would be talking about 3000 lb. sandbags. They'd be talking about fleeing for their lives.
You have hit the nail on the head -- she is absolutely pathetic. Not sure she should make it through one term.
Hey YR. How's the little one?
That's probably a good idea if anyone is interested.
Nobody believes she could have prevented disaster (other than issue evac orders earlier,) but if you know a city like New Orleans has the possibility of flooding, don't you think you'd have a plan worked out ahead of time in case the worst case scenario happened. They don't sound like they have a plan, other than to feed the people stuck in the city, and then evac the city at some point.
That water is not going to recede like in a normal city, it may evaporate some, but it won't recede, it will have to be pumped out and that's going to take a long time.
Just one note about relief donations. Please give to a charity you are familiar with and not one set up in the last 2 days. There is no sense in having any more money than neccessary "diverted".
Just my personal opinion but I remember what the Red Cross did with 9/11 money and I will be giving elsewhere.
Hang in there, our odd humor comes out at times like this
Thank you for differentiating between those that may(probably parents) that are taking necessities such as food water and baby items to survive and take care of their loved ones and those scum of the earth that are just flat out stealing.
If you want a sense of the devastation in MS, you absolutely must watch the WLBT skycopter footage. Was posted on the last thread but bears repeating...

Hi Sink. I don't think the Saudi's have any more production capacity. I have been reading that again and again the last six months.
Good to see you, Rose. God bless your generosity.
My post for the day is the revelation that dawned after looking at the map.
The hurricane narrowly missed NO. The miss is judged a miss only by defining a hit as being passed over by the eye structure. Katrina traveled north dumping rain as it went.
The rain fell, ran off to streams, to rivers, to the Mississippi river that runs right through the middle of NOLA.
Most the water that fell ended up in the Mississippi River basin and is destined for NOLA. It passed by as clouds but will return as runoff.
It's going to be a long time before it is dry enough down in that city for anything near normal life.
Maybe a thread should be started just for that. How would we organize a drive like that?
I'm in CO but would be happy to help however I am able.
