Katrina Live Thread, Part X
Various ^ | 30 August 2005

Posted on 08/30/2005 6:51:27 AM PDT by NautiNurse

Catastrophic damage occurred to Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama as a result of Hurricane Katrina. Major bridges are destroyed. Mobile AL suffered its worst flooding in 90 years. In New Orleans, a large section of concrete levee broke last night. Water continues to rise, threatening, among many things, Tulane Hospital with 1000 patients. New Orleans officials: Do not attempt to return to the city at this time if you evacuated. It is too dangerous.

Yes! Amen to "They are all my family as Americans." If it happens to one..it happens to all of us.

I understand food, as well, as much of it would even go to waste by the time any vehicles can get in...but carts full of merchandise? that's just wrong.

"The long-dead Pat Frank ( Alas, Babylon, and How to Survive the H-Bomb-- and Why? ) was a reporter across the world before breaking into hardcover books."

"Alas, Babylon" was a good book; I've read it two or three times. And I vaguely remember seeing a TV version of it in the late 50s or early 60s.

I think so.... Unbelievable we help out everyone in time of crisis.... Now let me stress this... I do not want it, but at least I want to hear the offers....The silence is deafening...

It was Sunday...you are correct, and only after our President convinced the mayor to do so.

They were probably using the flag to flag down a copter for rescue.

Yeah, your home is probably flooded and you probably won't have electricity and cable for a LONG time, but you're going to go on and grab that new TV?

In exchange, the U.S. will send the 82nd Airborn to Venezuela.

They are grabbing the 'bling-bling' now, they will fight over the food later.

There is a HUGE difference between 9 inches and 9 feet.

Eight feet three inches.

A meteorologist on WDSU saying the shape of Louisiana will be different now. Never the same again.

The flag is a good way of signaling for help. But it's good to know they had one in the first place!

Actually it could still be rising, if there are levee leaks from the river side. The river could indeed be higher than sea level.

High river levels are around 14 feet above sea level I've seen. I have no idea where it is at the moment.

What ever happens the National guard and police needs to take extreme measures.

Low life's looting for televisions and household goods are scum.

Savaging for food and water is a different situation.

Committing arson to cover up a persons looting efforts makes a person not worth living.
