Katrina Live Thread, Part X
Various ^ | 30 August 2005

Posted on 08/30/2005 6:51:27 AM PDT by NautiNurse

Catastrophic damage occurred to Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama as a result of Hurricane Katrina. Major bridges are destroyed. Mobile AL suffered its worst flooding in 90 years. In New Orleans, a large section of concrete levee broke last night. Water continues to rise, threatening, among many things, Tulane Hospital with 1000 patients. New Orleans officials: Do not attempt to return to the city at this time if you evacuated. It is too dangerous.

Good point.

I have always told my wife and family an emergency kit should always include a gallon of bleach.

As much as this comment might be out of place, these rescues make you proud to be an American! The Military helicopters flying in a preforming dangerous rescues is just breathtaking.

God bless our Military, and IMO, the rest of the world can go suck an egg. We don't need anyone else's help because we can help ourselves.

I can see CS right now down in Crawford saying,"LOOK AT ME, LOOK AT ME."

That is a big deal - it wasn't flooded before. This morning it was puddles. And it's rising.

How about bringing in some huge army trucks and loading up people in the superdome and driving them out of town? I think the longer they wait, the higher the water is gonna get.

I understand your thinking, but if there's still a differnce in water level between that bridge and LakeP, even if the bridge were ultra-reinforced to do dam duty, the water would eventually spill over the levee
above the bridge and just make a new path.

(?)"

Good thinking, you obviously have a feel for this kind of thing, but I don't think so. The bridge crosses over the inner wall.

Hard not to think both things at the same time...well, maybe at least close together in thought. : )

During the Dayside show on Fox, they clarified that it was not martial law, but another request to evacuate the city due to additional flooding because of the levy breaches.

They're degrading themselves...and our Country.

We aren't the only ones thinking like that.

My Aussie friends emailed me and they are just aghast ppl are stealing! Saying it blows their image of good Americans, but depicts the "Ugly Americans."

Understood, but he needs to be more visible. MSM will soon portray him as indifferent to the suffering.

And the terrorists are also very academic and you can be assured at this exact moment, they are abroad and in the US, studying precisely our emergency systems, our cool, our mindset, collective and individual, our sense of order, in light of a major disaster visited on a large US city like this. It is textbook case study.

There may even be terrorists in New Orleans getting a close look.

They will indeed learn from this. As should we.

One thing that must be assured.

There will be social order and no level of panic or looting allowed, tolerated, by the United States in light of major disasters. The terrorists would just love for us to lose our marbles and unravel.
