Catastrophic damage occurred to Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama as a result of Hurricane Katrina. Major bridges are destroyed. Mobile AL suffered its worst flooding in 90 years. In New Orleans, a large section of concrete levee broke last night. Water continues to rise, threatening, among many things, Tulane Hospital with 1000 patients. New Orleans officials: Do not attempt to return to the city at this time if you evacuated. It is too dangerous.

My eyes are wide open here, Uncle Ike.
There's work to do. Seeing the glass half empty will slow it down. I decided two days ago to follow the opposite course.
The media said this was a worst case scenario, then partied when the storm passed and they thought the danger was past. They still don't get how water works, and so they're heading into a doom and gloom cycle all over agian.
Steady at the helm and we'll save what's worth saving.
Chin up.
I have a hard time believing H Security is censoring our news coverage.
But, who knows I guess.
But, one would think they would be doing the same to local news....
the Mayor of NO let out that bad information....
it is bad in Slidell, but not that bad.....
They have reported gun stores are being looted.
Server is timing out, big surprise, so I'm not sure of the part after the ".edu".
Even if they were, partisan politics has nothing to do with this disaster or the recovery from it.
Fox sucks unless it's about a tabloid news feature....witht he only exception of Brit Hume, Sean Hannity, weekday a.m. coverage (i.e., Fox and Friends), and Gibson.
For tragedies, there's no point trying to get news from Fox, because they won't cover it unless it's got something to do with a car chase, sniper, or has the name OJ, Scott, or Aruba.
Apparently, the flow is very directional, because of the ridges and intact levees in other parts of the city. So, not all of the low-lying areas have been inundated as yet.
The professors did make clear that the Superdome area will be affected by serious flooding soon if the breech on the 17th Street Canal levee is not filled.
No wonder martial law is being declared. The criminal mind is single-tracked.
These people are risking their lives looting. That and the fact of the dire circumstances they are in is punishment in itself I figure. As far as food goes, in a flooding situation such as this, most food wouldn't be able to be resold anyway and would be thrown out by the grocers.
I am beginning to agree with you; it seems to me the studio reporters are getting quite strident.
BK, what's your source on this? It's great news, but I have to wonder where you heard it, since it says the formal announcement is coming only later.
I was thinking similar thoughts myself. I saw a clip of people raiding a frozen food section and my first thought was, "well, good...the food will spoil anyhow and these people have no other way to get food right now". But to raid and loot for "luxury items", that's just plain wrong.
I've found CNN to have much better coverage than the other two stations. After Shep's attitude yesterday, and the guy standing out in the storm like a giddy teenager, I started watching CNN and found them much more informative, with better info and better video.
I again started with Fox this AM and was a little disgusted this AM at the jovial attitude on Fox and Friends, so I switched over to CNN again (something I usually never do.)
Then I saw that anti-war commercial and thought I'd switch back to Fox, only to see the same commercial on Fox...so I'm back to CNN.
I hope that works out, the topology of the Dome, that is. And I agree, they have to try to survive for the moment, live to fight another day, as it were.
Agreed, CNN much better. But I am looking forward to some new film footage, its very repetetive.

HS, you got it right.
Whether it's legal or not, both KALB and the Town Talk are reporting that evacuees are being forced to check out of their motel rooms in order to accommodate other guests with incoming reservations. This has created a domino effect because the former motel guests are spilling into the shelters. As a result, Avoyelles Parish is now reporting that all of its shelters (including Paragon Casino Resort) are completely full. In Pineville, the Pentecostals have opened their large campground as a shelter site, and the city is allowing people in shelters to use showers at certain public schools during evening hours.
Yes they have; I've been watching their coverage...after getting disgusted with non-coverage by Fox.
