Hopefully the reporters will not take pics of the bodies. You know they're coming with that one.

David Diaz looks at the area where he and his brother used to live in the Sadler Apartments on the waterfront in Biloxi, Mississippi, August 29, 2005. The pile of rubble and empty foundations are what is left of 30 or more apartments and more than 100 of the St. Charles Condominiums. Hurricane Katrina ripped into the U.S. Gulf Coast on Monday, stranding people on rooftops as it pummeled the historic jazz city New Orleans with 100 mph (160 kph) winds and swamped Mississippi resort towns and lowlands with a crushing surge of seawater. That's an oil rig? Or at least, it WAS an oil rig. BTW, thanks for this thread. Seems to me that, give the potential destruction that could have occurred, we "dodged a bullet" this time. Perhaps all the prayers were answered...

We went through some tornado evacuations in Oklahoma, but even the Big One in 1999 wasn't anything like this kind of scale. It's really mind-boggling.

On the bright side the rig didn't hit either of the main suspension towers; those are where most of the time and effort of construction is. Replacing a section of suspended roadbed is (relatively) simple and fast, at least.

At least it wasn't a repeat of Hurricane Android (Andrew)obliterating that one town.
But it was still plenty devastating enough.

Pardon the slight diversion, but it seems appropriate.

My sis just intoned that our brother would attempt to force the ambulance to work in some way shape or form.
