Hurricane Katrina made landfall today at 6:10AM CDT, and she continues to drive northward into Mississippi and Alabama. Several local radar sites are down. Tornado and flash flood watches and warnings are widespread.
President Bush has declared major disaster areas, clearing the way for federal aid.

All the talking head Rather wannabes are in NO where there is no action.
The story is in Alabama and Mississippi.
What's a poor media hack to do!
Gilbert was lowest at 888.
Yep Rich is on TV right now talking about all our tornado warnings.
shhhh no one wants to hear that here. They already know everything.
Thank you so much....I have several people that are waiting on news....they will be checking here since you have posted the only news so far about Slidell. Again, thank you!
YOu would not want to be traveling - if you didn't have to - within 150 miles of NO for the next week or two. Just adding to confusion.
oops forgot to post the link....

Carroll County, GA update - homes damaged in two locations near Carrollton proper; Carroll Co. PD reports a mobile home was tossed more than 100 feet, and landed on it's roof. No word of injuries yet.
Just passin' along what they said, friend. The reporter, Gary Tuchman, was in fact in Mississippi and was relating what he'd seen and heard from local law enforcement.
Hopefully the story is untrue.
Disturbing reports from blogger in slidell http://www.electricmist.net/ reporters saying bodies floating top floor of days inn gone.
Link PLEASE!
This is the first I've heard ofthe USS Alabama floating into bridges....
I have dial up and do not mind having a graphic once in a while. I had rather wait a minute or two than take a chance on a link and spend days geting my computer back in shape.
Y'all stay safe over there!
Haven't seen anything specific on Long Beach itself. This is the closest:
From Sun Herald city editor Kate Magandy, in Long Beach at 10:a.am CDT As Hurricane Katrina continued to pound South Mississippi Monday morning there were unconfirmed reports that there was water up to the second floor at the Beau Rivage Casino in Biloxi and that there was water standing in the Grand Casino Biloxi.
___
Bay St. Louis had a storm surge of 22 feet, but details from this area is still sketchy.
Have found no confirmation on the USS Alabama report. It was on a local TV station during a phone call, but there isn;t even a story on it on thier own website. HOpefully the caller just had the Alabama confused with the oil rig or something.
OMG.....oh no.
Why can't we get any information about Slidell? Something is not right here.

Reporter on CNN reporting (voice, no pics) she just got to the 9th Ward of NOLA....said the entire area is flooded up to roofs as far as she could see......a couple people on roofs. Called it "Ghastly".
