"I never said we need to send them all our money"

Groovy.

I love it when fellow Freepers can agree.

The U.S. government's emphasis on abstinence-only programs to prevent AIDS is hobbling Africa's battle against the pandemic by downplaying the role of condoms, a senior U.N. official said on Monday.

Nothing stopping France, Germany, or any other country from donating money for AIDS work in Africa that talks only about condom use.

HIV/AIDS has been a goldmine for condom manufacturers. Prior to the mid 1980's condoms were considered perverse and unrespectable. AIDS changed all of that and made the condom makers rich. The last thing they want is for people to find out that condoms have had not impact in stopping the spread of AIDS.

ask the right question. try: "how many ways, other than sex, can you voluntarily do something that could get you aids."
ryan white was a very prominent case a number of years ago. he was a hemopheliac teen who got HIV through a (medically required) blood transfusion.

One of my fundamental Christian Kenyan friends says that the U.N.,and especially Europe, have done more damage to his country through promoting non-abstinence programs in fighting AIDS/HIV.

My point is that you can't get AIDS through abstaining from sex. You can get it through blood transfusions, sure, but that's hardly a voluntary activity. The UN's pansexual contraception program is sending the message that loose behavior is okay if. But there is no "if", loose behavior is simply not OK.

Not just condom manufacturers but rather latex manufacturers and suppliers.

Follow the money.

I personally know a local gentleman here where I live who has made over a hundred million by producing latex gloves and condoms.

Latex is more valuable that oil and it "grows on trees".

That's a disturbing picture. It's a shame that AIDS has to be introduced to kids watching Sesame Street. They don't need to be exposed to that sort of negativity at a young age, good heavens! Kids that age can't even spell yet much less know what AIDS is.

Uganda is the home of the ABC program. Abstain from sex outside marriage. Be faithful to your spouse. If you absolutely can't do that use a Condom. It's the most successful AIDS prevention campaign in Africa.

Don't forget the Joyclyn Elders addition (ABCD) program in which "D" stands for "Do something else" (masturbate).

I agree with you, they need to keep it in their pants.

A condom will work great as long as the gal holds it in an iron grip between her knees while abstaining

I don't have a problem with latex gloves, they obviously serve a purpose.
For that matter, I don't have that big a problem with condoms; however, to pretend that they are somehow the magic answer to the AIDS epidemic is bullsh*t.

Damn....
Can't we just stand back, respect their "culture" and let them die?

Aren't we being presumptuous to force them to alter their preferred lifestyle?

You're forgetting companies that make condoms lose money as well.

So the UN is supporting "Big Condoms."

Why do we give a $hit about Africa again?

One reason is because their problems spill out across the world, just like the middle east.

But a better reason is because it doesn't have to be the way it is. Africa was making great strides until the liberal/communists got ahold of it and they have turned it into a bleeding mess.
