Hurricane Katrina Live Thread, Part VII
NOAA - NHC ^ | 28 August 2005 | NOAA - NHC

Posted on 08/28/2005 8:10:23 PM PDT by NautiNurse

Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans metro area. New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin conceded that as many as 100,000 inner-city residents didn't have the means to leave and an untold number of tourists were stranded by the closing of the airport. At this hour, people are still filing into the Superdome after security screening for weapons and contraband. National Guard have brought in 360,000 MRE (meals ready to eat) to feed the estimated 30,000 storm refugees in the Superdome.

Our dog is sleeping and that's what I'm going to try to do now.

Prayers for all in harms way.

Largest post is Ft. Polk, which is over close to the East Texas border.

Yes, I knew there weren't any real close to NO.

I lived in Houma for 3 years, & I know many 'cajuns' never evac (far) for any storm. I rode one out, while many of my friends evac'd to Baton Rouge, as often happens, the storm turned, & BR area ended up with much more rain/wind than we got in Houma.

With 5 computers and a PocketPC on my network you would think I would have that covered, huh?

I don't even lurk there anymore, too infuriating!

And yet their vote is equal to yours. Talk about infuriating!

"I totally agree. All idiots out there posting recipes for gumbo or whatever should be suspended. There are many here wondering about the life/death fate of loved ones. Can we please forgo the G.D. recipes to a more appropriate time? DUH!"

Settle down, Frances. Think of this as the calm before the storm.

It amazes me that these people could think of making a buck off this disaster. Oh I know that it happens, but it's usually after something hits, like earthquakes. There was a problem with the last big one in So Cal.

" no wind sheer to break it up."

Sheer is just the difference to velocity. WHen it goes to land the drag is much higher on there, than over the water on the other side. The drag slows it and the E goes into messing up the land instead of wave action. Look at the sat images now and compare them to before. I thing there's hurricane winds in NO now. Cells and tornadoes are spinning off now in MS and LA.

Me too.

There's not a heck of a lot I can do about anything right now, save praying for these poor folks.

G'Night. Bless you.

"Try not to order people who have been here years longer than you have around. This is the way WE do it. "

Sorry, Howlin, I know that you are a Charter member. I did not realize that I was referring to you as posting recipes.

I'm not going to argue about that; that's what they've been saying on TV.
