Hurricane Katrina Live Thread, Part VI
NOAA - NHC ^ | 28 August 2005 | NOAA - NHC

Posted on 08/28/2005 2:38:16 PM PDT by NautiNurse

Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans metro area. Thousands of people did not evacuate New Orleans. Outer bands of Katrina are reaching the Louisiana coast.

Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be in their safe locations.

We fired our cannon till the barrel melted down
So's we grabbed an alligator and we fought another round
We filled his head with cannonballs and powdered his behind
And when we touched the powder off the 'gator lost his mind

But I guess if I had to be stuck on the road in a car, or in my house

I got a call from my sister a couple of hours ago. She's in Houma and scared to death. My neice got out with some friends but when my sister tried to leave the roads were packed and she had to stay put. The house is pretty solid and there is no water threat where she is but I'm still very concerned.

There's a second, usually unnoticed lesson from "The boy who Cried Wolf".

The big bad wolf DID show up in the end.

How can anyone leave home without their meds?

I had to spend the night recently in a hotel because there was a snake in the house and I left in a hurry, but I took my prescription with me.

The domed roof of the Pantheon in Rome was very well designed. It is 160 ft. in diameter...the largest span in the world until the Houston Astrodome. It is built of poured concrete and was built in the year 120 AD.+/- It has a large open circular hole in the center of the roof (to let the smoke out I guess). It is still standing today. I went into it last fall. The Romans built things pretty darn good.

No, the Cuyahoga fire happened about ten years or so before Kucinich.

Shep Smith was explaining earlier that the reason so many people probably waited until too late, is because they have been through Hurricane warnings so many times, packing up and moving or going to shelters...

just to have nothing happen, and go home, and nothing wrong. Spent money and uprooted family for no reason often enough, and one becomes very reluctant to evacuate.

Okay, I know I will get flamed for this one. I actually LIKE Geraldo! I enjoy when he reports. Yeah, he's goofed major big time at times. But, he is fun to watch and I think much better of Fox than he was at MSNBC.
