Hurricane Katrina Live Thread, Part VI
NOAA - NHC ^ | 28 August 2005 | NOAA - NHC

Posted on 08/28/2005 2:38:16 PM PDT by NautiNurse

Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans metro area. Thousands of people did not evacuate New Orleans. Outer bands of Katrina are reaching the Louisiana coast.

Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be in their safe locations.

Where are they going to refine it into fuel?

The strategic oil reserve means nothing if you can't refine it. If you want to panic, panic about the 9 refineries potentially being lost.

Due to damage to the chain's main computer system in Florida, the Best Value -- which only has 300 rooms -- was allowed to accept 10,000 reservations.

NO WAY! OMG...

Funny... I always thought it was tane. (Octane?)

They'll come back. New Orleans, that is.

Latest reports show the hurricane weakening. It is now a marginal Cat 5. Another 5mph drop and it will be downgraded to Cat 4.

"and was moving north-northwest at 11 mph )change from northwest at 13 mph 3 hours ago)."

That means it hangs around longer - not good.

Jackie ? (didn't catch her last name).

Jackie DeSalle is what I heard. Sounds like a great New Orleans name.

So how do ya like Texas?

It's OK so far.
Houston's heat and humidity is a pain, but I seem to be surviving.
I've only been here 4 months now, and I need at least a full year before I can give a fair and balanced assessment.
But it's GREAT to see green grass and trees again!
Living in Las Vegas was interesting, but you can't grow tomatoes in the back yard.

Another 5 mph drop and 1 mb increase from the last last advisory. Both slightly encouraging.

Yes, things are swinging in the right direction, but it's worth remembering that even if the trend continues things are still gonna be pretty bad....
