Thanks Howlin'....

I'll be looking for any word from Gulfport,MS and, specifically, the 2ND Avenue area.

My 80+yo uncle there refused family entreaties to leave Sunday ...

WONDERFUL NEWS!!!

My brother just heard from my Dad who is in Diamondhead, MS. Diamondhead is in Hancock county...about 20 miles east of Slidell and 20 miles west of Gulfport. They live inland from I10 near the water tower if anyone knows the area. They are fine and miraculously so is the house. There is just some minor shingle damage.

The call came from a neighbors cell phone so we should start hearing more very soon.

Praise God!

Thanks for the wonderful map - you're a genius!

I have a cousin in Folsom and an elderly aunt in Covington. Do you know if anyone on here has heard from these areas?
I've been unable to get through by phone and am getting very worried. (How's that for an understatement?)

Here's the latest map. I've updated it to reflect those who have checked in or that we've learned their status.

I sure hope so those of you worried about loved ones in this area are encouraged. Look at the following photo link below and you will see in this vicinity it is not too bad.

DIAMONDHEAD NEWS:
A large gas tank blocks the road on Interstate 10 near Diamondhead, Miss., Monday, Aug. 29, 2005, as travelers attempt to dodge road debris from Hurricane Katrina. Several roads and highways in south Mississippi were engulfed by water, and trees snapped as far north as Jackson.

Picture shows I10 at exit 16 going to Diamondhead. Overpass is ok, all signs appear to be up and looking pretty good...not twisted or knocked over. Small debris and gas tank (looks like it fits on the back of a semi) on East bound lane. Some cars and trucks are on the interstate.

"I'm just a few miles from you,"

From the looks of it on Spiff's map, I must drive past you on my way to Amory everyday. We gotta make some time to at least shake hands somewhere. Especially after what we just went through.

Thanks Spiff.

Still no word from my soldier boy.

They are probably busy and/or w/o phones.

Hey!
Got power a little while ago!

Lost it last night along with the phone, and was going to leave today, but thought I'd wait and see what happened!

Thank the Lord, I got both back a little while ago. But then lost cable.

Everything returned about an hour ago!

Thank you for asking!!!;-)

What about you?

I have friends in Vestavia, and they don't have power yet!
That unusual, I am usually the one without power, and they have it. Now it's the other way around!

I have family just out of Jackson, Ms and they have nothing including phone service. I keep getting busy signals. Even on the cell numbers. They are south of Jackson, in Richland.

Any info would be appreciated!
