Hurricane Katrina, Live Thread, Part V
NHC - NOAA ^ | 28 August 2005 | NHC - NOAA

Posted on 08/28/2005 9:35:34 AM PDT by NautiNurse

Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico. Mandatory evacuation of New Orleans is finally underway. Louisiana officials are warning of complete failure to levy systems, and pleading with people to leave low lying areas. For those who choose to stay, they are recommending picks and axes for breaking through to access their roofs during flooding.

Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be rushing hurricane preparations to completion.

Many here questioned the validity of that information, as the link was not provided with the original information.

Listen, we've been on this thread for over a week; we're not posting crap here -- and those of us who have been involved in these threads know janet's work, and not just on this web site.

These threads are flying passed. Be a little patient.

'Many here' disagree.

Nothin' wrong w/requesting confirmation, especially w/the implications involved here.
Doing so w/a King of the @ssholes inflection is/was not warranted.

I think Bush does understand now. I cannot imagine he does not. The guy just exercised poor judgment IMO.

Jim, I agree with you now is not the time to give people some sort of false hope that it will not hit them as hard as expected.

Don't forget Alabama. It's not looking good for the area around Mobile either.

"...Only if you've lived in Louisiana your entire life, particularly in the New Orleans area, or you study this kind of thing, and you've had it drilled into your mind forever of what could happen if New Orleans took a direct hit, do I think people understand."

Or watch 5 minutes of Fox News, or read any random 10 posts here. Certainly the President has an idea what could happen - if he didn't, he wouldn't have phoned the Governor to ask for a mandatory evacuation of New Orleans.

This wasn't an evac, he's a RC volunteer. They are setting up a staging area in Mongomery in preparation for moving into the disaster areas after the storm passes.

Agreed. The source needs to be posted when people ask for it.

On Fox or CNN last night, they said for all concerned about Tulane students, go to Tulane's web site. They've moved the students to another university. Can't remember which one, but you'll probably see it on their site.

Railroads could really help here.

They might not have enought regular passenger cars but the could hook up strings of flats, gondolas or boxes and move a LOT of people out pretty fast.

Wouldnt be the most comfortable ride in the world but beats the alternative
