Hurricane Katrina, Live Thread, Part V
NHC - NOAA ^ | 28 August 2005 | NHC - NOAA

Posted on 08/28/2005 9:35:34 AM PDT by NautiNurse

Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico. Mandatory evacuation of New Orleans is finally underway. Louisiana officials are warning of complete failure to levy systems, and pleading with people to leave low lying areas. For those who choose to stay, they are recommending picks and axes for breaking through to access their roofs during flooding.

Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be rushing hurricane preparations to completion.

The bars are full of people that are already stuck there - that's where I'd be right now if I knew I was stuck. :)
but why the heck are the bars open? The workers, etc shoulda been long gone.

Oh joy, joy.

My husband just said if he had no place to go, he'd be partying with the best of them on Bourbon Street as well.

I just gave him "that look"..scoff!

Cantore is a veteran of these things, he knows when to high-tail it. Other reporters I'm a bit worried about.

...and maybe worse. Potenitally higher winds and a wider area before it makes landfall.

Even Jim Cantore said he was leaving his MS location for safer ground.

We have a rule here: If Jim Cantore arrives, it's time to leave. If Cantore leaves, don't plan on coming back for a while.

Thas last wobble is almost due north. Ouch, that path leads to the max scenario from a flood standpoint.

We are having light rain now. It's a sick feeling when you see the outer bands on your local weather station.

Being Catholic, we refer to Parishes as Church areas.

I'm Catholic and have been and we always call our areas Parishes. Never heard of Church areas before. Parish is the proper word in my opinion.

Our house was severely damaged by an earthquake, but at least there were no snakes.

Yuck.

The Super Dome was built knowing that a CAT 5 storm would come. Almost all commercial building such as those in the downtown area (not the quarter) will not even notice a CAT 5 storm. A few windows will break, but thats all.

Have you ever hear of the business section of Miami having any trouble with storms?

used to watch ZULU form up in front of my stoop.

The coconut my wife got from Zulu may be an even more prized possession come tomorrow.
