Hurricane Katrina continues to strengthen in the Gulf of Mexico. Currently, the forecast models are converging upon New Orleans. However, all interests in the northern Gulf of Mexico should follow the path of this storm, and be prepared for a major hurricane landfall. Throughout Friday, the official track forecasts moved west, as Hurricane Katrina delayed making the anticipated northwest turn.

Thanks--seems it's hanging up because it updates so frequently.
LA Gov just on phone with FNC - contraflow ()one way traffic) starts in 1 hour.
Judging from the webcams, not a moment too soon. Sounds like they are sticking with the 4PM plan.
is NO under a mandatory evac yet, or just for folks south?
I saw a special on some channel a couple months ago.
It described the damage and aftermath if anything above a cat 2 hit NO.
Said there'd be no way to get the water out of "the bowl" and the health hazards would be unbelievable, because once the water subsided the mold and toxic slush issues would make most of the submerged property unliveable.
Look at Port Charlotte and North Port. A year later and people are still living in FEMA trailers. And that was just a low population area and without the logistics of NO being below sea level.
Recipes? But I don't think even the Cajuns will eat them.
Did it mention the nutria?
Oh... I wouldn't bet on that one. I'm sure somebody has a recipe.
its "bombing again"...
I talk to a buddy on a supply boat in Venice and he said one of the outer most bands just crossed over the top of them. I checked the radar, and sure enough.
They're just starting north up the river and plan on riding it out in NO, or Baton Rouge if it gets too bad.
Moon Griffon has a recipe for Nutria Rat on a Stick.
I heard the same thing about the meat. They can be harvested for their fur...
Do you happen to know what market uses the fur?
They tried to foist nutria as a tasty dish but nobody bought it. There's no way I would eat those ugly rats.
Landroid on Fox being interviewed about Hurricane. She managed to work in the Iraq War, envirowhacko issues.
We've got a bit of Katrina weather just now in the Tampa Bay area. She's really growing.
Numbers, or sat?
Nor would I. I just wouldn't take the bet that NO Cajun would eat it...:-)
A few years back the state put a bounty on nutria tails. Since the beasts are inedible, even to a cajun, you would drive along the roads of south Louisiana and see dead, tailless rats all over the side of the road. A lot were killed, but they breed prodigiously.
