As irritating as the constant minutae is, it is infitely preferable to hearing about Mizz Sheehan 24/7.

From all reports, tourism is up and rooms are all filled.

All the free publicity, with shots of the beautiful beaches, swaying Palm trees, and Margarita ville atmosphere has paid off.

This story has been in the public eye long enough for it to impact tourism

I have no idea. I have avoided this story insofar as possible. Perhaps someone will know.

Remind me to never go to Aruba, where the legal system has it's head up it's arse.

IMO that is what has kept this in the news. Aruba's inept police investigators who have botched this case from day one.

I also think Natalee's parents have kept this in the spot light. People who have been watching this know that the investigation and system has been a joke.

I have no desire to leave the USA.

Question: This story has been in the public eye long enough for it to impact tourism to Sruba. I haven't really been following it for the last month..but have they reported any major cancellations, or drop-offs in reservations..

No, from what I have heard they are booked.

Some official in Aruba recently said that the hotels are full, mostly of Americans. So American tourism doesn't seem to have been affected.

I heard recently that Natalee's mom was upset when one of the Kalpoe brothers waltzed into Carlos and Charlie's as if nothing had ever happened. Maybe he was perverse enough to try and pick up another tourist.

If Greta doesn"t lay off the botox pretty soon she won't be able to move her mouth or blink.

Like I've always said. If the girl was fat and ugly, the media wouldn't give a d*mn about her.

And if this had been a black girl from Aruba, nobody would have cared, either.

How's the saying go? "People care about people who care enough to take care of themselves" ... or something like that. Can't buck human nature.

Many folks here are "channel-changing-impaired". Add that to the "I couldn't help myself I had to post on a thread that I don't care about" syndrome and maybe we can get some Federal Funding for a study and a cure.

I was in Aruba about this time last year. It is a great place to go, a beautiful island and great people.

I would not go back again this year, not because I don't feel safe, but because of all the reporters everywhere.

The NBC interview doesn't sound particularly significant or revealing:

De Sousa said the interview was brief: "They asked him how he was doing; he said, 'I'm doing fine'; then they wanted to ask him about the case. He responded, 'I'm not going to say anything about the case because my defense attorneys don't want me to say anything to the press.'"

I was there a few times in the late 70's..early 80's...it was charming...before it got too built up..loved the Tamarind and the Divi-Divi...and the floatin Indonesiann restaurant in the harbor...then we jumped over to Bonaire ( the world's biggest pile of guano) for the scuba diving..wonderful dives, and dive operators..howver, I did notice that there was a strong undercurrent of anti-Americanism among the many Venezuelans who go there for a weekend of gambling...
