Katrina is emerging into the very warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico early this morning after making landfall in SE Florida, then tracking SW. Thus far, she is well ahead of schedule, leaving at least four fatalities in her wake, and well over 1 million without electricity.

Good grief! Of course I was kidding....my sister lives in Panama City. I have several relatives in New Orleans. I'm terribly sorry that anyone thought I was being insinsitive to the plight of hurricane victims.
Why do you insist on posting these graphics? You have been asked nicely not to yet you incist!
An old Startler Brothers album had a parody old time country/western radio program on it....the D.J. informed that Porter Wagner and Dolly Parton would be at the Johnny Mac Brown High School, and said, "Now there's a couple of big 'uns."
Firefox loaded them, no problems. You might not have up to date plug-ins.
He made them smaller. Hundreds of freepers post images all the time. Geesh chill pills needed for some this Friday Evening.
Well, as long as the thread is slow, the size is reduced, and there aren't a bazillion of them, they aren't a problem (on my dial-up, anyway). And they are very cool, as well...!
The mods have told nauti that she can request they be deleted.
Why are you so damned rude and who died and who elected you hurricane thread cop anyway?
I had one person ask for me to post a link instead and another ask for smaller images. That is it. Since I've received many appreciative comments about the graphics, but 2 complaints about their size (they're really not that big) I shrunk this one down as I will future graphics.
If you don't like the graphics, don't look at them or go read another thread. I'm not the only one posting graphics here and I actually made an attempt to post something of a smaller size.
For those of us with dialups hurricane threads have always had the bennefit of links only. No need to clog the airways if you do not have to.
Our Gulf Coast FReepers use this site for quick access to info.
There are a lot of FReepers who use dial up.
For graphics over 50K--post a link with description. That is
not asking too much. If you have a problem with that, take
it up with the keeper of this thread.
WOW! Spff, your posts make tracking Katrina so much easier.
Thanks.
If you are using freepers for your hurricane information then you are not very bright. It is unwise to use this thread for your EMERGENCY information. You don't know what or who is posting information.
You would be wise to visit the National Hurricane Center or the National Weather Service web-sites for your information. Also tune into NOAA Weather Radio and or your local television meteorologists for the latest information.
Anyone using this or any other hurricane thread for important information is prob asking for trouble.
I'm on dialup... but I appreciate the graphics! Very cool.
Look what we have here. Freepers have better info than any other source. I would take freeper advice over NHC any day.
Well--My vote is I like the graphics. Lots of graphics are added to hurricane threads.
The cane ping please.
You know, eastforker really pissed me off. If he/she had not I wouldn't be posting this and would have ignored her/his rudeness.
First, this is the first that I've heard of keeping images down to 50K in size. I can do that if necessary. That's not asking too much and when I post images in the future I will try to do that as I tried to keep the size down in my last post.
Second, if there are FReepers in the path of the storm relying upon a political forum for accurate weather information about a dangerous storm, and are basing their decisions upon that information found on a political forum, they need to get a real big clue really fast. What they're doing is dangerous.
Third, on Free Republic there are no "keepers of the thread". I've been here longer than most anyone on Free Republic (if you check, my membership number is in the low triple digits) so I know what I'm talking about.
I thought that the graphics I posted were beneficial to all. That seemed to be the consensus. In fact, I offered to map the locations of known FReepers so that we can see if the hurricane is heading in their direction and keep track of that kind of thing. I had only one FReeper request to be mapped but I may map more if asked and if the self-appointed thread cops go find another hobby.
Are you in a bad mood?
Forecasting, projections, changes, tracking, = I am watching Katrina, thank you, and Spiff's posting makes it easy to view the possibilities.
(Mentioned your name, spiff, courtesy ping only).
Do you have a link for this overlay??
