Search For Victim In Beating Caught On Tape {Oakland}

(CBS 5) Oakland police are learning more about a brutal beating caught on tape and sold on DVD.

The DVD is called "World's Wildest Street Fights," and the scene was taped in Oakland about three years ago. Oakland police found out about the tape Monday, and don't know who the victim is, or if she's alive.

"As it stands right now, or homicide section has not been able to identify any unsolved homicides for that time period," said Oakland Police Department spokesperson Danielle Ashford.

Investigators believe that the woman was attacked in a parking lot that is now a charter school. The video shows her trapped in the back seat of a car, getting pummeled. Then the crowd pulls her from the car, and she's kicked and punched from all sides, supposedly as payback for cooperating with police.

Witnesses to many crimes in Oakland are afraid to cooperate because of fears of retaliation.

"They have some legitimate concerns," said Ashford. "But we do everything that we can on our end to ensure their safety, to make sure that we get a solid case and they won't be harmed."

Police are trying to identify people and cars in the video, but the only person seen clearly is the victim, and no one has come forward to say who she is.

It was sickening and tragic. And some the inane comments that accompanied the video (many from foreigners)were just as sickening.One inexplicably referred to "redneck white Americans" when in the video most (if not all) of the participants were clearly black.

Looks like the middle of one of our Oakland"sideshows"
Seems like many of the attackers were GIRLS!Victim looked like she was either Mexican or light skinned black.
I am familiar with that area because of my work.Might have even interacted with some in the crowd at one time or another.
I'm always demouncing the gangsta lifestyle.Some listen,some won't listen to me or ANYONE.They will tell you,"Man,I don't GIVE a f***"
And its on to a life in prison and the beat just goes on and on and on.

Watching that video I have a feeling that is was the drivers intention to deliver her to that crowd. The only thing he was trying to protect was his car but the mob wouldn't wait for him to get her out. Watch how he only seems concerned about the car and actually unlocks the door for them when the victim won't come out. When the one punk yells "we got her right here!" it sounds like they were expecting her.

If the description of the situation was accurate I bet that poor lady was tricked into that car and driven to the location.
