A 47-year-old Friendsville man expecting to meet a woman and her 14-year-old daughter for a sexual tryst in an Ohio motel room instead was met by officers with an Internet crimes task force.
Douglas Hawxhurst has been ordered held without bond pending a hearing in U.S. District Court in Ohio. He is charged with traveling with the intent to engage in sexual acts with a female juvenile.
Hawxhurst was arrested Aug. 3 in Massillon, Ohio, after he checked into a Hampton Inn. With sexual aides, red bras he bought for a fictitious mother and daughter, and a charm bracelet for the nonexistent daughter, Hawxhurst went on to a rendezvous near the motel, records allege.
Instead, Hawxhurt was met by members of the FBI's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, said Detective Bobby Grizzard, with the Massillon Police Department.
"He was weak in the knees," Grizzard said of Hawxhurst when officers converged on him.
Grizzard said authorities at first charged Hawxhurst with multiple state offenses. Those charges were later put aside in favor of the federal charge, he said.
The arrest culminated an investigation that began May 22 when Hawxhurst struck up an Internet conversation with an undercover officer in an America Online chat room, according to federal records. Hawxhurst, records allege, made it clear he wanted to engage in various sex acts with the mother and daughter.
Hawxhurst used instant messaging, e-mail and telephone calls to arrange the meeting with "Lorie" and her daughter, "Laci," records state. Records show some of Hawxhurst's e-mails were sent from Tate and Lyle in Loudon, where he was employed as an engineer.
"I would like for you to assure me that you and Laci are not involved in any law enforcement activity," Hawxhurst wrote in one message. "As you can tell, I am very nervous about this. I have never thought this fantasy would ever become a reality."
Hawxhurst exchanged pictures with the undercover officers. In June, he explained he was developing a cover story for his wife about a business trip, while telling his employer about a vacation that would allow him to meet the woman and her daughter.
"This is something that has been building in me for a very long time," Hawxhurst wrote just days before his arrest. "It is a HUGE fantasy for me."
Hawxhurst finally arranged to meet Lorie and Laci in Ohio on his return trip after helping his son move to Chicago, according to records.

Surprising that people keep on getting arrested for this stuff. When a 14 yr old and mom are willing to meet you after online chatting.....alarms bells gotta be going off.

I'd like to hear more details about how this went down. For example, did he start corresponding with the "mother", then, at a later time after they begun talk of hooking up, did she introduce the "daughter"? If so, sounds like possible entrapment.
The whole things smells of entrapment to me. But really, you just have to avoid on line chatting with 14 year olds.

Agree. Thing is, this story looks like the cops used a brand new tactic. Instead of posing as an underage girl directly, they added a "mother". I'm sure this guy is a scumbag, but seriously, what if he only went along with this because the mother insisted on bringing her daughter along? If that's the case this is definitely entrapment.
What I want to know is, where are the busts where they set up adults/parents who ARE actually pimping out their kids?
Seems that these sorts of arrests are usually fluked into.
