A tear for WTC victims falls from distant Russia Memorial lands, in sections, at new Bayonne Harbor home Tuesday, August 23, 2005
BY RONALD LEIR JERSEY JOURNAL
Loaded on five flatbed trailers and led by a police escort, giant sections of the Teardrop memorial to those killed in the World Trade Center attacks in 1993 and 2001 were transported yesterday to the Peninsula at Bayonne Harbor.
There, the 100-foot-high, 170-ton monument will be assembled for a dedication planned for September 2006.
Next month, Bayonne will hold a ceremony, tentatively scheduled for Sept. 16, to unveil a commemorative stone engraving near where the monument will rise, declaring that the memorial is a gift from Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Russian people.
The bronze sections of the monument -- which its designer, Zurab Tsereteli, has called "To the Struggle Against World Terrorism" -- reached the Global Terminal pier on the Jersey City-Bayonne border Saturday after a three-week voyage from St. Petersburg, Russia.
Fred Worstell, president of Dresdner Robin, the Jersey City engineering firm hired to assemble the monument, said a special crane had to be brought to the Global pier to offload the several sections, which weighed from 28 to 63 tons each.
Before the pieces could be released from the pier, they had to be checked for any traces of radiation. Once cleared, the sections were lifted onto truck trailers for the final leg of the journey to the Peninsula.
Still to be done is the engraving of the names of more than 3,000 people killed in the two attacks around the granite base of the monument, Tsereteli said.
The monument will stand as the centerpiece of a waterfront vista park planned for a corner of the Peninsula.
This man has shown more care, consideration and sorrow than our idiot Liberal friends. He deserves our respects!
"This man has shown more care, consideration and sorrow than our idiot Liberal friends. He deserves our respects!"
Absolutely!
And I think the symbolism is just right too. You have a perfect edge outside, which is cracked in the middle, symbolizing the attack, and the teardrop as a reminder, so that we never forget 9-11.
The MSM and the liberals don't even want to talk about it anymore, but we must remember, so there won't be another one.
Think of it as the projection of engineering design, from outside it looks like a solid, strong piece (USA) yet inside there is sorrow and pain and tears(the people's cries).
His Peter the Great completely disfigured downtown Moscow.
I like it. Thanks Russia.
Nezashto :)
I don't know the designer, but I think this memorial is an inspired one, and captured the spirit and the memory.
And you can't question his goodwill of doing this for the US.
I don't expect to see any of you three here, let alone to make a positive comment. Might blow a gasket.
Zurab Tsereteli (Georgian: born January 4, 1934 in Georgia) is a Georgian painter, sculptor and architect who graduated from the Academy of Arts in Tbilisi.
Tsereteli was appointed professor in the Russian Academy of Arts (of which he later was elected a president) and president of the Foundation for the Children's Park of Miracles in Moscow, Russia in 1988. Later he founded the Moscow International Foundation for Support to UNESCO.
He was elected vice-president of the Russian Academy of Creative Endeavors and the president of the International Center of Design in 1993, as well as president of the International Academy of Information Science in 1994.
A simple friendship monument from the American people (not our leaders) would be a nice gesture.
I grew up being terrified by the Russians. Then I saw a funny movie called, "The Russians are Coming", and things started going uphill for me after that. I like the Russian people what little I know about them, and I love their culture and literature.
The last few nights I've been reading three or four short stories by Chekhov in new paperback books. For some reason I'm drawn to him more than any other Russian writer. He seemed to be such a sensitive and insightful person.

So in other words, the man who accuses others of "obsession and one agenda posting" is driven by either personal or paid hatred of Russians on 12 out of 13 threads.

I guess my troll-o-meter wasn't working. I'm not anti-Russian, anti-Eastern bloc, just wish they could all respect one another and rebuild their countries after the devastation of communism which affected all of them. I suppose some old hatreds die hard, and there is still a lot of resentment, as per the recent murders or beatings of Russians by some Polish people.
Typical answer from "jb6". I pointed out the obvious FACT that Zurab Tsereteli is GEORGIAN not Russian like article claimed. He just hasn't argument to argue with me and that is why he prefer personal attacks. Of course in Stalist style, posting few links that nobody will read anyway and there is nothing wrong from my side.
No, it's not a personal attack, it just showing your a one agenda poster, who finds every thread (ok not every 12 out of 13) as podiums for your attacks. In other words, you'd choke and die before saying something honestly nice about a Russian. (well those were the words of my wife, and they're more to the point then mine).
Show qoutes propagandist, funny how Sergey do not see me anti-Russian but you an "American" (yeah right, you are American like I'm a Chinese)
I can't help myself asking: do you actually get paid for this polling? I'd like to know so at least we can do some donations via PayPal. :)
