Students in Palo Alto returned to school today as a long-time athletic director and coach at Jordan Middle School is in jail facing charges he allegedly molested a student years ago.
Police said Bill Giordano, 59, was arrested at his home in Menlo Park Thursday on suspicion of more than 100 counts of child molestation. He is being being held in the San Mateo County Jail and will be arraigned today.
According to Menlo Park police, the charges stem from a relationship that Giordano allegedly developed with a student 14 years ago. That relationship allegedly lasted a couple of years before it ended. The victim, who is now in her mid-20s, recently reported the relationship to the authorities.
According to the school's Web page, Giordano currently teaches physical education to sixth, seventh and eighth-graders. He is the head track coach at Jordan, specializing in sprints and relays and is a volley ball coach at Palo Alto High School.
Marilyn Cook, associate superintendent of the Palo Alto Unified School District, said Giordano has worked for the district since 1978 and has been a physical education teacher at Jordan for 14 years.
Cook said the district found out Friday afternoon about Giordano's arrest and district staff and the Jordan principal were notified. Letters will be sent home to Jordan parents today -- the first day of the new school year -- and officials will talk to school staff members later today.

From what's posted, it doesn't say if he molested boys or girls. The fact that it isn't stated leaves me to believe it is likely boys.
I am curious to compare and contrast the reactions to this guy and reactions to the various "hot blond" female teachers that did much the same thing. (From the article, this, too, appears to have been consensual.)

As I've mentioned on similar threads, the gym teacher at my high school got away with getting Lewinskis on a regular basis from some of my female classmates.
She must have been in some sort of "therapy" session that did regression work - and her repressed emotional damage must have emerged......
Either that or she saw a paycheck as a possibility?
Was the teacher suspended? This excerpt just says arrested, not suspended. I bet it will be a long process to get this child molester suspended or fired if he has tenure. At our local school, there was a teacher who crashed into a police car while drunk driving and went to jail. When he got out of jail, he went right back to the classroom. What a nice example for our youth!

Have to wonder why the victim waited so long, but 25-14 years victim = one sick bastard teacher.
A CURRENT coach at a nearby school was having a relationship with a student on his girl's basketball team. She was a Senior - and the relationship broke up his marriage.
Well - the relationship with the student continued even after the girl graduated. Then, look out- she, "surprise", turns up pregnant. Now the coach is walking around the school with a "I'm a new dad" button (he had a child with his now X-wife just before the marriage broke up....).
And many of the teachers at the school are making a big to-do about the "new dad" ....... Yet he still is not married. He is being held up almost as a hero. What a great example to show the students - even if you disregard the coach/student part of the relationship, to see the exhultation of parenting children out of wedlock....
Mom of the former student - not concerned- and wasn't when the original relationship started. In fact, her attitude was one of ammusement.
Than again - why stir the waters - he's a winning coach....
A Palo Alto middle-school gym teacher is scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon on multiple counts of child molestation stemming from an alleged relationship with a female student 14 years ago.
Bill Giordano, 59, of Menlo Park, has been with Jordan Middle School since 1991, said Marilyn Cook, the associate superintendent of the Palo Alto Unified School District. He was arrested Thursday.
Cook said Giordano, who has worked for the district since 1978, has been placed on administrative leave. Whether the leave will be paid or unpaid will depend on the charges, she said.
A victim in her mid 20's, 14 year old crime. You do the math. Are you comparing a 15/16 year old boy with an older woman vs a 10/11 year old girl with a man???
At the time, he was 45, she was perhaps 11.
Yep, this guy clearly violated the "grass on the field" rule, that even Roman Polanski didn't break.
